Sorry it’s been a while since I’ve last written. Had some problems with the Internet, this is Africa after all but all is ok now…

We left Somerset West on the Saturday morning and drove up the coast road past Betty’s Baai, and other places and after about 90 minutes arrived in Hermanus, the famous whale watching town.

We stopped for lunch and had a look round the markets for anklets and other things for Luc.

The family we were staying with were best friends of Lucie’s mum, and they have two daughters, Lauren and Nicola who are 21 and 23.

Their home was amazing, right on the beach and they have a splash pool and possibly every type of “cool drink” or beer that you could want.

We felt very welcomed.

That evening we went for sundowners on the beach with a few of Nicola’s friends which was really chilled out and afterwards we returned to the house and got ready to go out for some food and a “few” more drinks.

Cubana and Shimi were the two watering holes of choice for the night and we had a really relaxed time, was so good to meet loads of new people.

I was the only one not feeling worse for wear the next day and so Andre and myself went moules picking and got about 60 for that evening supper.

After possibly the best Sunday roast of my life, this may have been because I was the only one managing to eat a lot, we headed up to the Hermanus dam.

Oh yes, sorry I forgot to mention that just after lunch I took Rowan, Nicola’s friend, to go and pick up some keys from his house.

As I was reversing out of his drive I failed to see a BMW X5 parked across the road, which resulted in a cracked rear light, a dented BMW, a trip the “cop shop” and a bit of embarrassment!

Now, back to the dam.

We hiked up a trail for about 20 minutes and reached this beautiful dam which was the lowest dam of a few that were staggered up the gorge.

It was quite cool by then and Rowan and myself decided to do a couple of cliff jumps.

The first one was high enough for him but being the stubborn person I am it wasn’t enough and so after climbing up the side of a waterfall and seriously regretting getting to the top I jumped off the 25m ledge!

We then drove all the way from Hermanus to Canstantia which is a suburb of Cape Town. We wanted to go on the coast road for a bit of scenery but we missed the turn off.

I thought it woud be a good idea to just take the next one which we only realised after coming off it that it was to Kyalitsha, the biggest township in the western province. Luc was a little scared, but we made it out!

These last two days, Monday and Tuesday we have been staying at Lucie’s second cousin’s house.

We’ve been staying in their cottage, which is so cute and they have three sons from ages 15-21 all of which are big into their rugby, which has been great for me!

We’ve been meeting friends at the waterfront for dinner and lunch and have done a spot of shopping when it was cloudy yesterday.

Last night we went out with Richard to Tiger Tiger, in Claremont. It was a really fun night and lasted till the sunrise this morning after a few whiskeys when we got back.

Today after very little sleep we went to Camps bay along the coast road, which was really nice and Luc was very relieved to top up her tan!

We are planning on doing Table Mountain and a township tour over the next few days and are staying with a girl called Kim who lives in Moullie Point who we met up in Hermanus.

Hope all is well, missing everyone lots…
