Well it's a new year, a new life on my own and I have decided to to a very very hard thing indeed. I'm going to go to the Annapurna region in Nepal and do a 200k trek around the Annapurna circuit. I won't be alone. Brian who was one of the Scots that I met when doing the Everest Base Camp trek is taking a group of 11 which I am tagging along with so I'll be sort of by myself and sort of not. Which is perfect I reckon. Time to think and yet I'll be able to chat to people if I want to.

And it should certainly focus the mind. I am certainly looking forward to not thinking about anything bar staying warm, clean, fed, watered and alive, the really essential things in life. Plus there's the added bonus that I shall feel TERRIBLY proud of myself when I've done it. Slightly concerned that I am ALREADY looking forward to having finished the trek and am sitting round in Pokhara, eating apple pie next to the lake basking in a glow of self satisfied virtue and counting my ribs.

First things first however, I really do need to get down to some actual training. It's going to be tougher than the Everest trek as it's 20k day in day out and not so much sitting around drinking tea in lodges (which is also good as one could get cold/bored - although come back to me on that one!!)

I leave 28th March and return 20th April. Watch this space for news as it happens!
