The obligatory through the door shot!
Happy New Year everyone! To those who asked what New Years Eve is like here....we dont know, 'cos, shock! we were asleep! Well, kinda..we were woken up by the fireworks (and fighting dogs!), but we DO have a valid reason for our rubbishness for a change; one of us was ill - guess which one....

1st January 2009!
... at 5am on the first day of a new year, we were up and en-route to New Delhi Train Station to catch the 0615 Train to Agra - home of probably India's most famous landmark - The Taj Mahal! It was a 2 hour train journey, so naturally we arrived 4 hours later, which was actually quite convenient as Hayley needed this valuable extra time to continue throwing up! Somehow, she has managed to get Delhi Belly, but we're still not sure from what....everything's a suspect...so, we arrived mid-morning and, alongside a friendly Aussie guy called Simon, negotiated a fee with a Rickshaw driver ( Ali!) for a days site seeing. Our first stop was the Taj Mahal - 'The Ultimate Monument To Love'. We still find it strange seeing a picture from a book in the flesh but it was

as stunning as we had hoped. We also took time out to have about a million pictures taken of us with random Indian families. The phrase 'Just one more' over here is just completely not true! Some even attempted to take photos of us while we weren't looking - oh to be famous!

After strolling around the Taj for a while we jumped back in our rickshaw and headed to Agra Fort. A beast of a building which we had a tour guide for. He was brilliant rolling off his script but any unexpected question was only ever answered with a very enthusiastic 'yes'.

We finished our day by having a drink on a roof top cafe overlooking the Taj (Hayley improved on her impressive record of being sick at famous landmarks; Bridge over river kwai - check, Taj Mahal - check) and then caught a taxi to the next town over to catch an overnight train to Varanasi...which is where we are writing from now!

We are here for a few days so will update you from here before we leave, destination to be decided!

Sorry, another couple of questions ......
1 - You may have already said but, what is a "Rickshaw" is it like one of those Tuk Tuk things ? 2 - Is the phrase "Ultimate Monument to Love" yours or did you steal it ???
