Sawat Dee Clup (Hello) from south Thailand - Kho Ph-Ngan ;-)
Since my last blog nearly a week ago, a lot has happenned, so picking up from the last entry, let me fill you in.
While still in Bangkok we went & saw a Mu Thai match, well Friday night fight which was huge! What an experience! The Thai are so passionate about their Mu Thai & the few thousand people in the stadium sounded like tens of thousands! I got goose pumps when I 1st walked into the stadium from their noise levels & support for their fighters ;-) From here things went a litle down for my travel buddy Jay - he got sick & spend a couple of days in the guest house. This forced me to explore Bangkok a little by myself & the positive spin off is that sitting at a random sidewalk stall having dinner by myself, I made 2 mates - Chip & Richard! We chatted over dinner & ended chilling on the porch of my guest house until the like 4am the next morning ;-) Doing what you ask?! ;-) Ofcourse smoking hub & exchanging stories - well they had more
stories as they have travelled extensively! I was quite happy to listen & take in all the their tips!
Because Jay was ill & in no condition to take the over night train as we had booked, we were forced to fly to Koh Samui instead! (Little sad to have missed out on that experience as apparently the overnight trains are good fun & where lotsa people are met!) This was the same port of call for our mate Chip & he booked himself on the same flight. Koh Samui is the island from which we caught the ferry to Kho Pha-Ngan! Yes, we were supposed to do our padi Ko Toa, but Chip & others all said it is just for padi & nothing else much! Also with the padi a bit more costly then we anticipated, we decided to stay on Ko Pha-Ngan - the party capital of south east asia! Kho Pha-Ngan is a nice island, but overshaddowed by the party scene - sadly! It is definately not called the party capital of the entire south east asia for nothing! The night life here & party scene is absolutely all about drugs & booze! Tourists come
in their droves for 1 thing, & that is simply just to party! To put in perspective, the majority of them come in groups ranging from easily 10 - 30 mates & make no secret of their objectives! But this has still not stopped us from having a good time!
We came for sun & beach & that is what we are getting! We spend 2 cool days on the beach. 1 on Haad Rin the beach, the beach where all the parties happen at night & the other day on the more secluded Leela beach! Haad Rin is really good to chill & watch the tourists do their thing while catching some rays! Leela beach is much more secluded & very quiet! Really stunning! On the beach we just chill, read a bit, catch a bit of a tan, swim & ofcourse - the hub never gets left behind ;-) At Leela beach we even managed to snorkel a bit ;-) Not the clearest water for snorkelling but still good fun! I am hoping to use my underwater casing for camera real soon ;-) After 2 days on the beach we decided to do a "tourist" activity &
went on an elephant expedition!
Wow, what an experience! Slow, but good fun & definately worth it! Something I wanted to do before I left on my trip & definately glad I have done it! Another cross on my list of things to do ;-) I also finally managed to drag myself to gym here on the isalnd! Not bad - all the basics & definately enjoyed it after like a week of no exercise ;-) They have a Mu Thai ring in the middle of the gym - wow - impressive the training they do! Inspirational to say the least! respect!!Today i will try & run around the island or something - should manage to squeeze in a 30 minute run somewhere on this island ;-)
Our evennings are spend having dinner, chilling on the beach at the parties & smoking hubbly on our porch! We occasionally watch Friends at one of the many local restuarants here that plays friends all day ;-) Never stop laughing - still my favourite! We often end up again on the beach for a little while only, as the parties are too hectic for our liking! Still cool to go down
for a while and have a good time!
So after the elephant trek yesterday morning & not the best beach weather, we did some discussions & planning over a drink and some hubbly. Taking in all the advice from a dear mate of mine & other tourists - we consilodated what we wanted from our trip originally, paged thoroughly through my travel guides & decided on a couple of options. Today we head to the travel agent, & the best deal = the best option! Best advice on this subject: "Dont do too much planning, dont get your head stuck in the travel guides! Decide on something & just stick to it!" I cannot agree more as the past couple of days, we have been in limbo as what to do!
So the next blog will reveal our decision - just to keep you interested & coming back for more ;-)
Kop Conclup (thank you) for reading & till next time, take care!
Zubs
Impressions:
The good:
- sea water is very clear & warm = great for swimming
- nutella pancakes are a treat most nights ;-)
- Friends is always playing somewhere on
the island ;-)
The bad:
- tourists come in their droves just to party & it is normal to wander to the inetrnet cafe @ 10am see them drinking already - or still from the prvious nights party
- running is not the easiest on this island - will have to make a apln today though ;-) need it
The ugly:
- all the booze & drugs = toooooo hectic scene for us & we know we will not enjoy new years here (they expecting about 15 000) tourists here just for new years!
PS. Merry Christmas to all reading this blog & who celebrates christmas
