Mostar - 40 degrees and getting hotter

So after our beautiful bus ride from Sarajevo, we finally arrived in the Mostar bus station and were bombarded by "soba" ladies. There were so many of them selling rooms that we could barely get off the bus and no matter how many times I told them I already had a room, they persisted. It was only until one of them noticed another bus pull into the station that they stopped. One of them would notice the other bus, point and yell and then they would all run to the other bus with their flyers.

Mostar was interesting. On our way to Mostar the landscape had luscious, green, rolling hills, waterfalls and turquiose rivers. As we got closer to Mostar, the lanscape changed to barren hills littered with tree stumps. The city was pretty small, although my sister and I still had trouble finding the places we wanted to go to. Our wanderings took us through the back alleys and neighbourhoods of Mostar. We couldn't help but notice all the damaged buildings that remained from the Bosnian war. Unlike Sarajevo, which has been largely rebuilt, the remnants of the war were a lot more evident in Mostar.

After much wandering, trying to find the old part of the city and the city's famous bridge, we finally found a bridge, only it was the wrong one. We had come to the outskirts of the city and as we looked behind us, we noticed we passed it a long time ago.

The old quarter was very nice, but it was devastatingly hot that day and the white rock that covers the old quarter didn't help much. The old quarter was overrun by tourists, some wearing ridiculous garments and which my sister liked to say looked like they were "hunting lions." It was pretty funny. The bridge or Stari Most arching overing the Neretva River and which had been rebuilt after being destroyed during the war, was exactly like the pictures. It was also very steep and being afraid of heights, I didn't stay on it very long.

By that time, we were red in the face from the heat and thought to go back to our rooms to cool off and come back again. The weather thought otherwise. On our way back it began to pour and it didn't stop until late at night. We stuck around our place and then hung out on our balcony looking out at the hills of Mostar.

The next morning we had to leave, but not before a lunch of Bosnian food. Everything just tastes better in Bosnia! The food is so good and so cheap, so we pigged out a little. We had some cevapi and burek and we couldn't resist eating pizza as well.

Travel is so cheap here so the previous night we added one more city to out trip - Medjugorie.
