Day 17 - Kande Beach to Chitimba, Malawi

Earlyish start and we drove to a town to get some provisions. I wanted to get some stamps to send the girl that I ad met yesterday, so that she could write to me. One of the locals walked me there and back. Michelle used another to get her some bananas for her, but he blatently ripped her off, so she made him take his bananas back (which were a little battered). He started to say that he was hungry, starving etcm but Michelle wouldn't hear it, especially as he looked healthy and wore reasonable clothes.

After we drove a short distance to Mzuzu where we purchased outfits for tonight's Punch Party, as it was Hilde's birthday. The theme was animal print and red. I drew Richard from the hat, so had to buy for him. As soon as we disembarked from the bus we were pounced on by the locals with a horrific selection of clothes (if you could call some of them that). I found a huge zebra print dress (Richard's a big guy) and some ribbon for his head and bright scarlet nail polish. The others hoever found a red bathing costume and I then found a red sequin skirt. Poor guy! I wondered all the time what I would be getting!

When we arrived at Chitimba and put of tents up, I went out to the beach with the intention of swimming and doing my diarym but I was accosted by an 11 year old called Hudsen and later a guy (24) called Franky. Hudsen was obviously only interested in making a sale of a keyring, but Frankie was very nice and taught me some K'Swahili. However I did just want to be left on my own. When I got up to leave Hudsen guilted me into getting a keyring, so I did, although the little bugger tried to raise the price and then asked for a tip!!

The evening was great! We all described our outfits and then who they were for. I ended up with a huge leopard print dress and red scarf for a bed and a fur hat! We all changed into out "outfits". Roeland looked like a Flintstones extra and Ben looked great in his miniskirt and red see through top with sock boobs. Richard looked rather disturbing and wore the leotard back to front and only that for most of the night.

We played Roxanne and Ring of Fire (drinking games) which was great. After we went into the bar and I went to bed after playing Bao with Roeland for a while. It was a great night and hopefully Hilde enjoyed her birthday!
