Reflections on Thanksgiving. This was the first Thanksgiving Nancy had been with her family since she was a senior in high school. The next year, she had Thanksgiving outside Memphis at a friend's home, where she met Rich. The next year, she was on a ship near Africa. After that, we've been married and out West. Hard to make it for Thanksgiving on Thursday when school is out on Wednesday at 3:00, plus being expensive. Nancy's mom's birthday is today. She would have been 87. Sometimes her birthday actually fell ON Thanksgiving. This year, the six siblings were together again! So here we are on the day after! We are really enjoying Rowan, following him around, playing with him, carrying him, kissing his little face! Nancy made pancakes for everyone for breakfast. Lily and Rowan and Jodie got teddy bear pancakes. After breakfast, the little ones went out to play in the piles of leaves. Rowan liked the crunching sounds as he walked. He carried some leaves around, smiling. Jodie had fun, too. We ate some leftovers for lunch. Several people got out their laptops and put them on the dining room table to share slide shows of their recent doings. Rich removed the tailgate from the new truck so it would be easier to hitch up the trailer. He and Art went to get some flattened boxes to put around it to protect it while it rides between the utility box and the front wall of the pickup bed. It will stay there until we get home. Various groups posed for pictures today and yesterday. When we were outside taking pictures, we saw that there were license plates from Connecticut (Seth's new car), North Carolina, Missouri, Virginia, Nevada, and Tennessee. Seth, Vivian, Jodie, Nancy, and Rowan rode in Seth's new car to Target at around 4:00 to pick up a few things, like diapers. The store was not very busy for the biggest shopping day of the year. Maybe everyone had shopped in the morning. Then, eight of us went to see "Quantum of Solace" the new James Bond movie. We all liked it. It was full of action! Eight stayed back to watch basketball on TV or play board games. Rich babysat for Rowan and followed him all over the house - even up the stairs. He was actually changing his diaper when we got back from the movie!

After we were all back again, we visited in groups all over. It was really great. We ate turkey sandwiches for dinner. Then Erin and Dina left. They're going home tomorrow, to their wonderful home by the bay.
Rich could hardly wait to break out the special beer he had found back in vermont. He gave one to the men, except for neal because it didn't apply. It was called "Arrogant Bastard Ale" and rich had a lot of fun playing host. Not everyone thought the taste was wonderful, but the bottle was fun! For example, it said, "If you don't like this beer, keep it to yourself --- we don't want to hear from any sniveling yellow-beer-drinkin' wimps, 'cause this beer wasn't made for you." 😊 Much teasing and hilarity followed.
We slept, feeling the warmth of family around us.
