So what can we say about Los Angeles that hasn’t been written about or commented on a million times over? Well, we found it quite interesting. We got the bus up from San Diego. It was only a 2 hour drive, but it was the 1+half hour wait that preceeded it that was a little unpleasant! We had The Fifth Element on DVD on the wall to keep us entertained but our Greyhound Bus experience left a little to be desired. They weren’t very fothcoming with information about why the bus was late or even when they were expecting it to arrive! Then when we finally arrived in LA, we weren’t in the station we were expecting to be! Quite a bit away from it in actual fact!
So with the bus journey behind us and the hostel located without much trouble we proceeded to take in our surroundings. We were on a street that connected Hollywood Boulevard with Sunset Boulevard. Pretty cool location. On our meanderings through the streets we came upon the world premiere of the new animated film “Bolt”. Half the street was blocked off and there were crowds of people around the barriers looking for a
glimpse of somebody famous. We weren’t so lucky as to see anybody from the far side of the street so we carried on exploring!
Our one big excursion in LA was a walking tour up to the Hollywood sign. (Which began at The Walk of Fame where we learned that Gene Autry is the only person to have 5 stars, 1 in each category) A 3 hour hike, up quite steep gradients in 31degree heat was not what we had expected. A stroll is what was advertised! So up we went with our small bottle of water each, suffering with each step until we got to the very top and the views were amazing. It made it all worth it. We could see 360 degrees around the city and the LA smog was very easiy spotted. Thankfully the walk back down the hill was that little bit easier than the way up!
LA was quite a cool city to finish off our USA leg of the trip. We could write more but after all the constant travel of the past 4 weeks we are both cream crackered and looking forward to our 10 nights of relaxation in a
tropical, magical, paradise.
It’s Fiji Time......
