Well here we are in Vientaine, Laos. On arriving here, it felt as if we'd taken a big step back in time. In comparison to the 'in your face' hassle of Kuala Lumpur, Laos and the Lao people seem really laid back and easy going. Made our way from the airport to town in our very first tuk tuk ride. These things are brilliant and seem to be the mode of travel here. They feel like they may fall to bits at any moment and have as much power as a sewing machine, even little girls on pushbikes were overtaking us! Good fun.

We made our way late afternoon to the Mekong riverside. Sitting on cushions in small restaurants on stilted bamboo platforms, we enjoyed a Beerlao as the sun set over Thailand across the Mekong river. For us, undoubtedly one of our trips finest moments so far (1 big bottle is only 75p!) Spent most of our time here by the riverside, or walking through the town looking at some of the many temples.
