G-Day folks,

So after pulling ourselves away from sunny Cairns we decided to head to Mission Beach and to be honest were not sure why!!...........Perhaps it was the attraction of where Rainforest meets beach or perhaps where Man meets Cassowary!!! No it's not a deranged yummy Casserole but a bird the size of a man.....!!! I'm sure you are thinking exactly what I was when I first heard about them..............A dinosaur type bird that swoops down and can pick up a man and fly away!!! BUT it's more like an Emu type bird that can't even fly!!! BORING!!!!!!!!!!!

Checked into an excellent Hostel 'Tree House' set in the Rainforest own pool, hammocks that sort of thing..! and our first opportunity to cook our first meal in nearly 9 months!!!!! Nic take it away ............

Nic - Unfortunately the hostels here don't tend to have ovens so our pining for a homecooked roast is going to have to carry on until we get home....a whole year without a roast dinner, now that's an achievement....well, almost torture actually!! (So for any kind souls out there we've now opened our calender from 1st March onwards and are taking bookings for any roasts that you'd like to throw our way!!!....and yes Ness, we will be bringing our tupperware to take any leftovers home with us!!!!)

So back to our first cooking for nearly 9 months.....We grabbed a few bits for the Barbie (be rude not to really!) and a bottle of red and set about doing as the locals do!!

We decided to take a walk through the state forest in search of a snake or two and maybe a cassowary (I've no idea where Dan got the idea of giant man eating birds from?!!!) but as we realised when we finally got back to the hostel - we were the only things stupid enough to brave the sun and heat, and anything with two braincells to rub together was probably sleeping in the shade!!.....We actually realised that we saw more wildlife in our kitchen in the Hostel - Being an open building, built in the rainforest, it too was home to all manor of insect life, most of it rather large and kamikaze as it headed for the open flame beneath your saucepan....Interesting! Good job we're not squeemish anymore!!!

Dan - More like the only real adventurers left in OZ!!! Didn't find much though still was nice to explore!!, did I mention how long the beaches are here? No well 14km each beach they seem to roll on for ever.

Onwards and downwards next up is Airlie Beach the 'access' point for the famous 'Whitsundays' islands.

Back soon.
xxxxxx

Nic - Oh one lovely thing about the Treehouse - Check out the view from my shower every morning!

hi guys, have you seen a cassowary yet? I did when i was there and i can confirm it had claws big enough to kill a man. Then it opened its mouth and roared like a lion, it was a total shock, a bird making that noise. The fence between me and the bird was quite small so i legged it! Keep an eye out for one!!!
