Well, the 3 hour bus ride turned out to be 5 hours. We walked around town looking for a place to stay but all were either full or way to expensive. We finally managed to find a place with hot water and TV!
Today we decided to go see Xieng Khuan otherwise known as Buddha Park. It is a garden full of Buddhist and Hindu sculptures of Vishnu, Buddha, Siva and other deities. It is pretty amazing at how big some of the statues are. Anyway, we took the local bus there, 1 hour on the no.14 bus which first stops at the Thai border then moves on up the Mekong. While in the garden, this Laos guy and a Buddhist monk approach Linda and I and they ask if they could talk to us. The Monk was there to meet English speaking tourists to learn English. We said no problem and that was that. We got a full history lesson on all the statues and Buddha. It was pretty cool to have a monk as your personal guide! We walked around for about 2 hours talking and listening to our new friends. After exchanging email addresses we said goodbye and made our way back to town.
We have just come back from a Indian restaurant and had amazing curry, well I thought so, Linda did not like it to much. Tomorrow we make our way to Nong Khai, Thailand as we make our way to Chang Mai.
