We are back in Minneapolis after a huge Halloween weekend. We spent the weekend in the little town of West Union in northern Iowa with Nancy's aunts Dee and Kay, cousins Sandy & Tom, Marci & Mark and Jane & Steve, her second cousins Carey & Nick, Jennifer & Nick (a different one) and Lindsey and third cousins Matthew, Makayla and Max.

Friday night we cooked chili, went trick or treating around the neighbourhood with Matthew and Makayla and carved jack-o-lanterns from pumpkins.

Saturday we had something of a 'tailgate' party, though instead of going to a football game and eating in the carpark the relatives completely took over our hotel and ate in our rooms while watching several college football games at once and spouting non-stop statistics that we had no idea about at all. We finally ate our first burgers of the trip, though they may not count because (a) they were home-made (from the finest Iowa pork) and (b) they were very good.

In the evening we went to a Halloween party hosted by Marci and Mark, eating the 'barf buffet' and playing traditional Halloween games such as bobbing for apples, which resulted in several near drownings but thankfully no deaths.

Today we went to brunch at the local country club, which involved several helpings from a very fine buffet. Cousin Sandy drove Nancy, Aunt Dee and me back to Minneapolis. She at least managed to stay awake during the three hour drive, which can't be said for her Australian relatives.

Tomorrow we fly to Orlando to begin our Disney adventure.
