So leaving Hampi seemed sad as we had made such good friends there but there are only so many rocks to fall off, or weed shakes to consume so we decided to hit the road again. Cue another horrific night coach to Bangalore on which the driver insisted on pumping out crap indian music very loud even though we were trying to sleep. This was probably to distract us from the fact that he was either a) completely pissed or b) never actually driven a bus in his life which would account for us rolling round the bus all night. I had packed the emergency bottle of rum in my backpack which was stowed in the hold so it was a sleepless night all round. The rest of the passengers were miserable fuckers so a party bus it was definitely not. After a change in Bangalore we coached it to Mysore and holed up in another scummy hotel, albeit one with proper pillows and a mattress that doesnt seem to be made from cow hair so complete luxury! One of our main and slightly shallow reasons for coming to Mysore was to find a spa where they had actually heard of leg waxing, no mean feat in India as they prefer to be monkey like. Mission accomplished we found a four star hotel with a beauty parlour in it which is the equivalent in England of teh kind of salon you found round the corner from your house in the eighties. Dusty avon products lined the shelves and she manged the wax both my legs with the aid of only two wax strips, a kitchen knife and some honey. A very wierd experience, although not as wierd as Catherines as she actually braved a haircut too. She now is the proud owner of a 'Rachel from Friends' do, only ten years too late mate! I also paid someone to pedicure me as walking around in cow shit for a week has left its mark on my chimpy feet. Pampering aside, we still found time to visit an ayervedic doctor and buy oils to keep mosquitos away from us, the downside being we smell like cheap whores all the time, just what we need when outnumbered a thousand to one with repressed indian men. We also celebrated Divali, or the Festival of Lights at the Maharajas Palace which was beautiful when lit up. We met loads of friendly indian families who practiced their english on us and enjoyed the spectacle. Today we have made a concerted effort to work off all the curries and climbed Chamundi Hill. 1001 steps in the heat of the day to see another temple, a yellow cow and be followed by teenage boys asking for kisses. By the time we had gone to the top and climbed down it again we both looked like we had parkinsons as the legs were shaking so much. We think its gone some way in compensating for all the curry and can enjoy a beer or two before getting on another coach with a clear mind. Its Kerala now as we brave a 12 hour bus trip to land us in Cochin tomorrow morning where hopefully we can ride elephants, drink beer(or litres of wine in Catheirne case) and generally be merry!
