The hotel last night was right on the beach but more of the Indian
standard type than European standards. Everyone complained about how
hot and sultry it was. Although we were high up we could not afford to
keep any windows open because of the bugs.

Before we set-off around 0830, the organisers gave some awards. The
main one was the Muppet of the (previous) day award won by the team
that smashed their sump on a rock on the road that 50 other cars
managed to avoid beforehand!!

Our first major stop was the Jog Falls, the highest waterfall in India
and the second highest in Asia. We reached there after a similar
uphill climb with hairpin bends as yesterday but on tarmac rather than
gravel and dirt.We had some fantastic banana pancakes before setting
off through the countryside.

The actual drive was fairly straight forward today compared to
yesterday's hill climb. The major challenge was the narrowness of the
tarmac with no room to let buses and lorries pass without stopping. We
have a terrific photo of a huge banana tree with most of its base
cut-off.

We arrived at our destination, a town called Shimoga without any
further incidents but did experience a half an hour downpour to give
us a taste of what the monsoon can be like. A benefit is that we won't
have to wash Maygo tonight. So we will decorate her with some garlands
instead.

The photos of the threee girls is getting alot of attention from other
participants and many adimiring glances (and a couple of enquiries)
from the local male population - enough to tempt me to marry the two
unmarried one's off here.

Tomorrow we have the toughest day of the entire rally with breakfast
at 0530 and a 0630 start. We expect to be on the road for about 13
hours and arrive in Managalore (Not twinned with Bangalore) in
darkness - so should be fun.
