Auckland (we are still here)

Yes we are still in Auckland, it is now Tuesday evening and Bill is still in hospital, and having ultrasound on ankle tomorrow morning to see if infection has turned into an absyss, if so good news as surgeon will remove it and he should be able to leave hospital Thursday???
Bill is in a ward with 3 others, all very old and 1 with dementia, yes there are others alot worse off.

I took ferry over to Devonport Island this afternoon, weather here has been very warm and sunny for last few days, the Island was like an old seaside town in England, very quiet and peaceful and pretty, went for walk along beach and up to top of North point then back down to wander around small quaint shops, they had an old fashioned greengrocers like we used to have about 20 years ago. Took some photos then got ferry back to mainland to get back to do evening visit to hospital. Would have preferred not to have gone alone but Bill said he would feel better if I didnt sit in room alone all the time.

Wednesday, not so good, Bill has had ultrasound and surgeons now want to do minor operation tonight , but he wont be able to leave hospital for approx 5 more days. I cant believe this is happening, looks like New Zealand is virtually written off even when Bill is out of hospital he still has to have dressings changed every other day to start until wound has healed. He was moved to his own room today, has great view over Auckland city and can see the sun!!
I went for walk around Mt Eden today, very pretty but no one around so decided not to walk very far, New Zealand apart from the City centre of Auckland is very quiet this time of year.

Thursday, got text from Bill to say operation was done last night quite late, things can only get better for us now. Hospital are saying now they hope he will be able to get out at weekend??

Moving from hostel to hotel for the next week, white fluffy towels what a luxury.!! Been out on my own tonight for food and red wine/beer (had one for Bill as well).

Seems like we might be able to see a few places in New Zealand before we move on to Australia, but cant plan anything at the moment. Never want to come back to Auckland ever.

Hi Sue and Bill Have enjoyed reading your blogs but so sorry to hear that Bill is in hospital. I'm sure he'll be ok just get that photo in pj's before he comes out it'll be great bribery material. Good for you to take a trip on your own, its not easy in a different place. Look forward to the next blog. Big hug and kisses. Debbie
