We arrived in Ayutthaya on 11th October 2008 by train. The train was third class and the worst journey I have ever taken. It lasted for 90 minutes, was crammed full of people, the seats were hard plastic and there was no air conditioning, although there was a single fan on the roof!!!

We were picked up from the station by our new hostel owner and taken to drop off our bags. I liked this hostel most out of all so far despite it being a wooden hut! We got silk sheets though....pure luxury!

On the first day we hired some bicycles and set off to explore what used to be the old capital. We saw people living by the river and there seemed to be lots of parks around with old temple ruins in it. We saw elephants trotting up and down the road giving people rides and had a look around a largemarket. Mt first impression was that I didn't really understand why this was the old capital. It was so mych quieter than Bangkok and didn't have much going on. We tried to chill out on the grass but where ever we tried to sit there
Karoke Bar....Karoke Bar....Karoke Bar....

Drinking Singha Beer...is it because its local beer or cheap?! I'll let you decide!
seemed to be an ants nest.....gives meaning to the saying having ants in your pants!!!

On the evening we went out for something to eat and then stumbled upon a Thai Karoke bar. It was funny to see the Thai people really getting into the singing although I did not understand a word they were singing! Putting the mosquito nets up that night was fun! Trying to get something to attach to silk sheets is difficult and Nat kept me entertained for a good half hour as hers kept slipping off the bed!

On the second day in Ayutthaya Iris came with us (the Canadian girl) and we walked around 12/13 miles and managed to see a lot more of the city. We also took a boat ride around the whole city and really saw the cultural side of how people live without electricity or running water. Many waved at us on the boat as we passed. They were washing in the river or fishing for their dinner at the time. I felt like the queen and gave them a royal wave back!!

Getting better with the dogs too...they are everywhere so I have to but luckily they aren't fussy so don't come up to you. One even came on the boat ride with us....we named him Baxter!

After the boat we ambled back to the hostel to shower and pack before going out for tea. Fruitilicious today....pineapple, grapefruit, starfruit and dragon fruit! After tea we were taken to the train station to catch the overnight train to Chang Mai. When we got on we found our seats but soon after the train workers came around and turned our beds into bunkbeds. I was on teh top bunk and found it pretty exciting. I felt like I was 12 years old again and on a school trip! The journey was around 14 hours and so I crossed my fingers I would sleep. Thankfully the motion rocked me to sleep like a baby within minutes....maybe when I get home I will invent a motion bed to help those with insomnia!!
