Man on a bike..
There's loads of them like this, looks like they'd just topple over..Days 39 - 41
Got into Shanghai around 7am ad could see the fog as we approached on the train.. Managed to get a cab quite easily as we had a card for the hostel and we went straight there and checked in.. We then tried to find a Mc Donalds with no luck so headed back to the hostel and ate in their cafe which is pretty nice, sofa, tv, pool table and a bar..
Doesn't seem to ba alot to do here more just a city than a plae to sight see so we only booke din for two nights.. As in most places we've been the roads are mental but here its crazy and te amount of people on bikes is mad.. They have their own lane but if there's traffic or a red light they tend to either keep going into the middle of a junction or op onto the pavement and then get annoyed when your in the way?!
We went of food that night and found a nice lookingish place but no english so we had to guess.. Did quite well i think it was all edible.. I think we had a
mushroom and chicken dish, noodles with bits in and rice and pork ribs?? also somethng that looked like sweet and sour chicken but inside had the texture of egg, didn't tase too bad.. Ha ha..
The next day i got up for the free breakfast toast cereal and dumplings, such a strange combo?? NOt sure what to do so went for a wander wanted to pick up some shoes as the £4 primarks ive been wearing for the past 6 weeks are rotten, i mean actually rotten i think they are decomposing whilst on my feet.. We headed towards Carrefour and i managed to get most of what i needed but got distracted by electric scooters for 200o yuan and actually considered buying one each?? I think its the heat going to our head, we wouldn't even of made it out the road withoutgetting killed!!
That night we just sayed in a watched alot of films, US Seals which was pants dont ever watch it EVER!! Waned best film ever (apart from pirates of the carribean off course), and then 21, and the whole of season 4 friends.. Had alot to drink and hit the hay..
Last
day in Shanghai and we decided to go to the harbour so we checked out and got the subway there which was only 40p.. Paul (our addition cant remeber if i mentioned it) went up the huge radio tower but it was a bit pricey so i went shopping hee hee.. Found a H&M and there was noone to stop me so i ended up buying four tops, one of which was a jumper?? and my much needed new shoes, didn't come to too much though..
We all met up after and went for lunch i weren't that hungry but got too excited in McDonalds.....and Brger King OOPS.. 2 burgers chips onion rings and a large coke later i didn't think i was gna make it back without either falling asleep from the energy it took to consme that in 15 minutes or throw up??
On the way to the station im so glad to be getting out of this city the constant unecessary tooting and screeching of the old bikes the hocking noise you hear round every corner and the smog was giving me a headache.. Also the staring is getting slightly annoying and even more blatent
they dont even glance anymore its a full blown gawp.. Maybe its not helped by my not so white t-shirt, or holey shoes that give off a slight stench you can smell even wen im wearing them, or stained leggings?? Not sure, im gna say its not that!!
When we got to our cabin on the train we saw small cabins crammed with 6 beds, 3 on either side and we were at the top.. I just hoped there was a restaurant cart as this was not going to help my hunch.. THere was so we headed there as soon as we could and got quite drunk playing cards.. Tried on the security guards hats when they weren't looking then realised they had guns.. Oops..
On the way back to the cabin all the lights were off so we sat in the hallway for a bit eating blueberry crisps which aren't nice and noodles..

why did you get the train? you could have got a bike and packed it up with all your stuff like in that first photo. it's great to see photo's as it makes it all seem even more feel. gina xx
