Paris 7 October

(Sue) What can I say about today.... eventually life catches up with us all. We had planned to jump out of bed, catch the metro and then a regional train to Versaille to see the palace and grounds. Instead we woke feeling extremely tired and decided to have a lay day. After all we have seen the odd palace or 2 in the last 7 weeks. We found a shopping centre and cruised the shops. Geoff was very indulgent letting me have a shopping fix while he walked and waited. I only have one negative comment, not enough comfy chairs for the poor husbands.

Having recouped a bit of energy we made our way to Notre Dame cathedral. This is a very gothic and austere building in all senses of the word. It is immense and dark in ediface and inside. The stained glass windows are superb but are located high above the congregation. It is definitely a working cathedral and is not 'pretty' like the Italian ones.

I thought I had struck gold as I noticed that tonight they were performing Handels Messiah at 8.30pm in the Notre Dame cathedral. All I had to do was hand over 15 euro! Geoff then reminded me we have a date in Amien at 9am tomorrow for our Battlefields of WW1 tour. Damn! Oh well I will just have to find something similar at home? On our way back to the apartment we were serenaded in the metro by a string orchestra playing Vivaldi, which was almost as good and only cost a donation.

Au revoir for now

Home soon
Hi Ivan, I know I'm getting a bit wooly but no need to push the point! We will be home by the weekend, God willing. I'll get in touch once we have had a chance to draw breath. Cheers to all back home Geoff
