Mackay Yeppoon 1170

Well once again we have arrived back at our base of River Heads. It has certainly been a godsend having Ann and Bernie's house to return to while we wash,repack and restock for the next trip. John can actually get a few good nights sleep and of course watch his precious TV with proper reception.
We spent a week with Cheryl and Jeff in Mackay, although Jeff was working for most of the time. It was wonderful to catch up with them again as we hadn't seen them for about seven years. We helped Cheryl do some gardening and landscaping while we were there and were fairly pleased with the results. We didn't do any fishing there but did have a bit of a drive around the area and also went to a sugar crushing mill, which we both found very interesting. Cherly and Jeff live on the Northern Beaches of Mackay but it's not far from the CBD.
After Mackay we headed to Yeppoon and John was disappointed with it as he had read a bit about it being a very nice spot. I had no preconceived ideas and so thought it was OK. We spent two nights there and then our next stop was Turkey Beach to try and find Lou Beazley an old friend of John's from his speedway days. We managed to find out where he lived and went to his house but unfortunately there was noone at home.
We continued down the highway to Agnes Water and 1770 and spent a week there doing some fishing. We caught lots of small stuff but nothing to get excited about. We met two lovely couples while we were there and spent some relaxing nights around the fire chatting with them. After Agnes Water we headed to Baffle Creek which although is called a creek is actually more like a river. We found a really nice park and were camped beside the creek and were able to have our beloved campfire. Again we went fishing and again caught nothing to get excited about. I am serioulsy questioning our angling abilities and sincerely hope we catch some Barra when we get to Monduran Dam in mid October. Next week we are heading back to Inskip Point to have a few days camping with Bruce and Jo and we are really looking forward to it.
Maybe then we will have some fish photos. (I live in hope)

This was taken at Yeppoon and was built to honour Captain Cook who discovered the Keppel Islands which are just off shore from Yeppoon

Captain Cook Memorial
This is built where Captain Cook landed in May of 1770 and appararently 1770 is the only town in Australia with a number instead of a name.

Sunset on Bustard Bay
One of the few places on the East Coast where sunset is seen

Baffle Creek
They call this a creek!! Named Baffle Creek because Captain Cooks men,when exploring the region were apparently baffled by the creek system.
