After our scenic resting in Yangshuo we travelled up to the rice terraces near Longsheng. We opted for a guest house up in the mountains which involved a couple of bus rides and a good hours hike up to about 1500m. We were assisted ably by the Yao women who live and work in these mountains. Tough ladies with a keen desire to sell you touristy trinkets. Refusal is futile.

As you can see from the pics the mountains were very misty but still stunningly impressive. This is possibly the most amazing feat of human engineering we've seen, better than the Great Wall in our humble opinion. The terraces stretch way up into the clouds. It was a restful few days and nice opportunity to meet Teresa, from the UK, who was travelling on her own having hiked the Himalayas.
