Safely in Vietnam having not had to pay any unofficial extra charges to any officials!! We began the process of bargaining for a lift on the moto to the Chau Doc. As usual the price started ridiculusly high and we were followed for several metres by a large group of bikers until they finally agreed a reasonable price. Chau Doc is about 25mins drive from the border crossing and somehow i ended up with a man who was at least 70 driving my bike! He had to get someone else to lift my backpack on to the front between him and the steering wheel and then nearly fell off the bike - really filling me with confidence!! However, we made it in one piece and i only had to shut my eyes on two occasions when i was convinced we were going under a bus!!
Originally we had intended to head further down south into the mekong delta but somehow we had lost our travel guide and as we couldnt remember the name of the place and no one spoke English we decided to head into Saigon instead. Getting the bus to Saigon turned into a hilarious half hour of trying
My driver
very camera shy!to mime a bus and the location in order to find out a price and the arrival time! Very funny as nobody had any idea what the other was talking about!! Finally we were on the minibus and on our way, had to take several ferries to cross the Mekong and make several stops whilst the driver did his shopping and stopped to talk to his family!! Finally arrived in Saigon at 9.30pm after a very long day of travelling and easliy found a hotel in the backpacker mini hotel alley!
