the beautiful sunrise!
Well I'm finally here! Mom, dad, and I left our house about 8:40am on Thursday and arrived at Chicago airport around two. After meeting up with the Ambrose group...around 17 students....we checked in our luggage...mine being exactly at the weight mark! We took off from Chicago around 7pm and flew through rain pretty much the entire time. As soon as we started flying over Ireland the rain cleared so we got to see the sunrise and the beautiful landscape. Of course, though, as soon as we reached Dublin it started pouring again. We landed around 8am and got our luggage really quickly and then hauled it out to our bus that seemed forever away since we had to walk through the rain. Carlow is supposed to be an hour southwest of Dublin but we didn't get there till about noon because of traffic. We got to see lots of the countryside though. When we finally arrived at our apartments, Carraig Abhainn, it was still pouring so we had to haul our luggage through that again and get our apartments soaked. Kaley Brouwer and I are sharing apartments and we found that our room was tiny! We thought there was no way we would be able to fit all of our stuff but after a few hours of packing somehow we managed and its actually quite cozy. We also get our own bathroom in the room so that'll be nice. We share the apartment with 2 other ambrose girls Erin and Simone. After we got all settled in our director, Ryan Dye, took us downtown to our college, Carlow College, where we got a free super! We were introduced to leaders of the school and while we were eating the music director played the harp. Before we left she sang a song for us in Goidelic, the old Irish language. That's the only Goidelic we've heard so far. We then walked around Carlow for a little bit longer...saw an Aldi's, a McDonalds, Subway, Quizno, and KFC!....and headed back to our apartments. For the rest of the night we all hung out and got to know each other since we were too tired to do much.

Glad you are there safe
Brenda and I are down at the church checking on some church stuff and we checked your blog. We are so happy that you are there safe and sound. Have you dried out? It has been cool here with a little fog and sprinkles but no real rain. Today is our anniversary, 55 years. We will celebrate with all the Vilmain family this afternoon in the park. Your Mom called last night to say you were there but the computer was goofed up so you must have it fixed now. Hope you have enough space in your room. Enough for now. Love and prayers, Grandma
