Finally back home in Wuhan

This is just a quick note to friends and family to say that we have made it safe and sound back to
China, but it has been a long three days!

After a few days in Quebec City and a week with my parents in Brockville, Ontario, we flew from Montreal on Friday morning to begin our return trip. After almost a full day of traveling, and eleven time zones later, we arrived at the Nikko Narita hotel outside of Tokyo.

The next morning we boarded the plane to Dalian for the first leg of our Chinese air travel. The plane sat on the runway for an hour before takeoff because of a medical emergency on board. The person was taken off the plane and we had to wait while they unloaded his/her luggage. This should have been an omen for the rest of the day! Three hours later we arrived in Dalian air space but could not land because of weather conditions (thick fog was blanketing the area, a common problem at this airport). After circling and waiting for conditions to improve for over an hour, we had to return to Narita. So at the end of the day, we ended up back at the hotel we had left eight hours earlier.

Yesterday morning we set off again on the same flight at the same time. This time we made it to Dalian and caught our two hour connecting flight to Wuhan, crossing our 12th time zone. That's halfway around the world, isn't it? We finally walked through our front door last night at about 7:30.

It is great to be back in our apartment after our six weeks of traveling this summer. It is 5 in the morning, I woke up way too early, and apparently we have a staff meeting in about three hours!
