We’re now in our last week of travel in Vietnam and have saved the best places to visit for last. Through our guesthouse/travel agency in Hanoi, we booked a five day/five night trip to Halong Bay and Sapa. It was a great deal really, included all transportation, tours, accommodations and meals.

Halong Bay is a World Heritage Site, is listed in 1000 Places to See Before You Die and has been nominated as one of the Seven Wonders of the Natural World. It is truly awesome! There are hundreds of tour boats on the bay and it takes two weeks to see all of the islands. Only 2 days, 1 night for us. We stayed overnight on the bay on a beautiful wooden Asian Junk. Our stateroom was excellent, maybe even better than some of the hotels we have stayed in.

We cruised around the bay, saw floating villages, visited an amazing cave and took in the beautiful scenery. Our tour guide was a lot of fun and had a hell of a time keeping us together when we went kayaking, especially the ones who had never kayaked before and did not speak Vietnamese or English! The group we were with was small, only 14 people. Met some great folks and had a lot of laughs.
