Last Days in Central America

Wanting to move closer to our destination Cancun and see another place, we moved 1 hour up the Yucatan to the beautiful although tourist populated Playa Del Carman.

This was quite a cheesy touristy hang out with hundreds of Souvenir shops, people hassling you to buy their stuff, and 100's of American tourists. But this place was very easy. We found a great deal on a hotel 50m from the beach. There were plenty of good cheap restaurants and bars. We spent 2 days here rolling between the beach and the water before we had to make our way to Cancun to catch our flight and end our Central American adventure. This leg will take us to the magical state of Montana to visit Sarah and Joe (sister and brother-in-law). It will be strange seeing family again. So Leanne sent Matt off for a quick haircut and went shopping for new wardrobe to replace some of her smelly rags.

We had a 7.30am flight from Cancun which is only another hour further up the coast but although it was near and had an equally nice beach, earlier poor planning has created an eyesore!

We only arrived the afternoon before our flight. Although we hadn't really done it before, we decide to confirm our flight. Boy was it lucky we did as it seemed American Airlines were not prepared to let us fly as their record showed us not making our last flight with Lan Peru. This meant hours of stressful and very frustrating phone calls being switched between dozens of people and on the phone for 4 hours to Peru and Mexico City. With 20mins until the Cancun AA office closed, we finally arranged to have new tickets reissued but this required picking them up as check in was at 4.30am the next morning. After the driver conveniently dropped us at the wrong location, we had a 4 block sprint with one "big foot" trip along the way and made it with minutes to spare. Not the relaxing end to this section of our trip that we had anticipated but at least we could now relax and have a giggle at the day.
We are on our way to stress free travelling in the family run Montana retreat.

We were up at an eye rubbing 3.45am and on our way to the airport. We were very excited about the next stop but have also taken away some amazing memories of Central America.
We are so glad we visited here as it is an extremely interesting part of the world and very different from South America. With all the guns and first hand stories of muggings and thefts, we are quite happy that South and Central America had only left us short of 1 travel clothesline still sitting in a hotel somewhere.
