The Chiang Mai Jungle Massive
We caught the sleeper train from Haulampong train station, Bangkok. The train reminded us of the Russian Cold War...we expected to meet James Bond when we boarded! Even the guards looked like russian soldiers, except they had hilariously high squeaky voices! :s
We met a lovely old Thai lady who studied in Scotland for a few years in her youth. We have her address and have promised to send her a CD of the Scottish and English national anthems...
The nights sleep was strange to say the least..rickety and noisey, but comfortable, clean and air conditioned 😊
We arrived in Chiang Mai, and were greeted by a taxi driver with Oscar Rich on a sign..he took us to the worst hotel ever! We realise now we were ripped off..but we won't tell you how much we spent! (its still cheap for the UK).
We went out, to taste the nightlife, got some nice food..and got screamed at by Thai girls hanging out of seedy bars :s We chatted to two German girls, in town for a while. They were very pleasant. We had a few beers in the Night Bazaar, nice but wasn't
that great.
The following morning we got up bright and early for a "dodgy" breakfast and the TREK!! YES! We met our group, there were 10 of us, everyone was Dutch apart from us... :S There were only two good English speaking peoples.. Daphne & Daphne, who were travelling together and were also/luckily a similar AGE.
We sat on the edge of the pick-up truck which was terribly unsafe!! (Especially around corners) This took us to a remote village where we started our jungle experience... RAFTING! We both "Punted" separate bamboo rafts, laden with four uneasy passengers each!! The journey was hazardous and we had to navigate through/past rocks and rapids, as well as the odd elephant!!
Next was a trek through the jungle for about 3 hours to a welcomed stop @ a picturesque waterfall... NICE! It was very powerful and was the perfect temperature! (See pics attached!)
We continued for another few hours to "Bule Bule's" village where we spent the night! That night we made friends with the Dutch contingent and enjoyed a few icy cold Changs!! ;P
The hut consisted of bamboo platforms exposed to the elements with a roof! We
enjoyed a sleepless night sharing a double, pink mozzy net! (Lovely jubly)
The next day we woke up stiff as you like... by Bule Bule's cock-eral!! This day was slightly more boring as we just trekked through the eerie jungle... en route we stopped off @ a beautiful village, full of strange and wonderful animals... for lunch. Eventually after many a slippery slope we reached our accomodation for the night, it was the same sort of layout as the last village however no-one was living there! The village was located next to a beautiful river and there was another waterfall 😊 We had to wash under it as there was no running water in the village! (This was a strange experience!)
That evening we got smashed out of our brains with the two Dutch girls, and were singing pop-punk long into the night! Making the (Adult & child) Dutch very, very angry!! -Ooops! We did apologise in the fresh breezy morning and forgiven! (Phew!)
The next day we trekked to the elephant CAMP! Amazingly we rode on top of the elephant and had good times!! (See pics!) We sat on the mummy elephant, who was occasionally growling
and trumpetting her trunk @ her children!!
That evening we grabbed a bite to eat with the Daphne's and played guess the person! Our guides Pino and Terry got in contact with us and we met them @ a real cool local bar! Where the beer was cheap and the people friendly! We randomly bumped into the two Germans.. Crazy! After many a bar hop we headed to a nice roof-top bar near our crappy hotel?! In the bar you had to remove your shoes and sit on the floor, here we chatted to locals until we were so drunk we had to return home!!
The next day after a well needed sleep we caught the night train to Bangkok, where we currently are situated! Our bags are in a dodgy tourist office and we are in a shopping mall, about to watch Hancock (in Bangkok!!!!) @ 7 (Local time) we are going to catch a bus down south where we will then catch a ferry to Ko Samui, the start of our island adventures!! 😊
We hope you enjoyed our ramblings, and thanks for reading!
Again much love and RESPECT to our families and friends.
We miss you all like crazy, if only you were all here! hahahahahahaa!
Speak soon!
Oscar and Stu XXXXXX
P.s. Alch managed to catch a last minute flight and has posed in a few pics! (We love you boy!)
