Caught the subway and went to the Louve today. When they say you need a full day for this one, they mean it. The Louve is this huge...I mean really huge Museum. It covers blocks and blocks of Paris real estate. With 4 levels to get lost on, there's really no way to even sprint through the place in one day. The building itself is a work of art and wonder.... Mostly, I wondered where the hell I was. The painting of the Mona Lisa is most popular as you see small directions pointing to her location through the various buildings. She's bigger than a bread box but not by much. Considered the most popular painting in the world, the entire painting is no larger than 1 foot and a half wide by about 2 and a half feet tall. She does have that cute smirk though....I'll give her that. I used one of those headphone narrator gadgets to make some of the other stuff more interesting. Napoleon III has some apartments in the Louve as well. That was pretty impressive. You can walk through the apartment save the roped off areas...everything is still in excellent condition for being as old as it is. From his apartment, you could tell this guy lived well. The ceilings were at least 30 feet high, and everything was covered in gold trim, marble, red velvet, or some painting or statue. One of the smaller rooms, kind like a sitting room is said to hold up to 250 people.... I put it at more than 300. This guy definitely liked to socialize.....everything was big enough for a town meeting.
I left after dark, and returned to the same sub-station I started from, but because it was dark, it took me a few minutes to get my bearings. The station closest to my hotel is the one under the Arc de Triomphe (shown in the picture). From that point, you can go about 10 different directions.
Had a bite to eat in a bar type restaurant called a Brasserie. The food was good but the service sucked as expected. No big deal, I don't expect much in the way of service. A bunch of Americans were nearby so I had a little reminder of home with all the talking they were doing. Though they were talking about fear factor and the grossed things they saw on the show. My chicken salad and beer still went down without of problem, even without the $50,000 purse. I made it back to the hotel...home sweet home. I'm sure to sleep well tonight.
