On top of the world....On top of the world....On top of the world....

or at least on top of the Harder Klum climb
We arrived this morning in Switzerland and it is possibly the most beautiful place in the world... it has our vote! The anticipation was buliding as we were riding the train through the Alps and every city we came upon had beautiful views of the mountains, cute white and brown houses and super green lawns. When we thought it could not get any better, we arrived in Interlaken. We stepped off the train and could instantly tell we were not in downtown Rome! The air smelled SO good and clean! Then we crossed the bridge to get to our hostel and the water was the bluest we had ever seen (and that is by no means an exageration). We saw nice big plots of green grass and flowers everywhere. Then we learned you can DRINK the water here! OLE!!! Plus who can argue with a country that considers chocolate to be a main course. In the afternoon we started our climb up the Alps via the HarderKlum trail fueled by plenty of carbs from 6 days of pasta in Italy and a pound of swiss chocolate. After 2.5 hours of upward climbing we were rewarded we a breathtaking view of the

Alps and city below. It was hard to continue the climb because every time that we would go 10 min there would be an awesome view that we would have to stop and admire. We could not believe where we were and what we were seeing! As we made the climb up the hill we could really see why Interlaken has become so famous . . . imagine this . . . 2 big beautiful lakes on either side of green plot of land that is dotted with cute little swiss dwellings. Then to either side you have impressive peaks of the Alps. We climbed to an elevation of 4,500 feet and the other side of the Interlaken area the peaks reach 13,500 feet. The way down was much quicker and easier but after 5 hours plus of hiking both of our legs were spent. We did not feel like going somewhere to eat so instead we stopped at a grocery store and got some apples which we were craving so bad and food to make in our hostel kichen. We were thinking how funny it was that we were making frozen pizza and mixing water with crystal lite on

our honeymoon but that is what you have to do sometimes when you are backpacking Europe. The funniest part of us deciding to make frozen pizza was that when we got back we realized our hostel kitchen doesn't have an oven! We did learn however than throwing a frozen pizza on a frying pan and cooking it over the stove works just fine too! Well, we wish we could spend more time here to try and find Andy's long lost relatives. Maybe that is a good reason to return, which we already decided is a must! We will continue to soak up the fresh air and take in the amazing backdrop and then tomorrow afternoon it is off to Paris where we are very excited to meet up with our friend Krista! Bon Jouir!

Pics soon of this amazing location!

Ahhhh
Switzerland. I am glad you guys included Interlakken in your agenda. Your pictures recall it to me very well - as does the description about the air and the blue water (I always thought of it as "ice blue" - something about it looked cold and refreshing). A thought: while in rome, I felt sick the whole time. NOw I see you writing that you can drink the water in Swiss country... does that mean the water in rome is off? Seeing as I was drinking from tghe water fountains all the time, it could be the cause of my ailments. I maybe it was my swig from the Trevi...
