Edit Blog Post

today is our last day on ko pha-ngan. we've had a great time doing very little on the island for the past week. what we have been doing alot of is swimming in the sea, walking, eating and drinking far too much. went jet skiing yesterday which was brilliant, those things go very very fast (i think the speed dial said 55mph at one point). we rented out one jet ski and triona and myself took turns driving while the other person sat on the back. definitely want to do that again.
euro 2008 final is on tonight (part of our reason for staying here so long is that alot of bars in thailand close at 1, we wanted to make sure we could watch all the matches). we'll probably watch it at the cocktail bar on the beach near our cabin with pum the barman. the place is called fairyland and with good reason, that man makes his drinks very strong. it's the best bar on the island, he even let us play the stone roses at full blast the other night. the final doesn't start til 1.45 tonight and we have to be out of here at 11 in the morning so hopefully there'll be no extra time. off up north to chiang mai tomorrow so we have alot of travelling ahead of us. going back to our cabin to clean up, pack up, and say our tearful goodbye to gary the gecko who lives with us.

Hi-de-ho!
This blog is making me miss Thailand very much, I have to say, but keep it coming - I guess I can get some kind of vicarious pleasure out of knowing that somebody somewhere is having a beachside massage. Over here the newspapers are doomladen and the weather gloomy, as you've been hearing, but we've been trying to cheer ourselves up with a few gigs, with some success. The venerable Leonard Cohen did a marathon 3 hours in Kilmainham - sitting in the rain listening to Suzanne is actually kind of a spiritual thing. Morrissey last Saturday in the same venue was a somewhat different experience ("This is the museum of modern art, and I..am...modern art") - he opened with Irish Blood, English Heart of course and showed off a bit of his Gaeilge. Support was New York Dolls who were more glam rock than punk (but David Johansen did call us a 'buncha Irish bastids' at one point, which was nice). Saw Neil Young in Malahide last night too so missed most of the Euro final (though we got to see Torres bagging his winner on the big screen just before the shaggy old rocker took the stage). He did pretty much rock - played enough Harvest era stuff to keep the big crowd pleased and encored (a little weirdly) with A Day In The Life. Getting a taste for it now - think there'll have to be a festival before the summer is out - - Rock and Roll will never die... !!
