It all happened faster than the eye could comprehend. One second Christie was behind me, the next she was on the ground. The thing was, I caused it and that wasn't so good. Before today we'd only had one puncture, now we'd had a puncture and crash ... things were looking up!

Christie had decided this morning that I go to slow (hard ot argue with given an everage spped of around 17kms an hour) and that I'm always stopping (also hard to argue with because I like taking photos) so she decided to go ahead a bit today.

The section of cycleway form Bacharach to Koblenz was exceptional, flat, right on the Rhine, castles everywhere ... just magnificent. Teh sun peke dit's head through the clouds frequently enough that we were warm, and so rather than stay at Koblenz, as previoulsy planned, we decided to head on another 40kms or so to the next campsite.

20kms down the road, I missed a turn off, Christie called it out to me, and so I was slowing down to take a right when I suddenly saw a little bit of a bie chute, slammed on my brakes, heard a startled yelp behind me and then saw Christie trying to come down on the inside. The result was her narrowly missing crashing her head into an iron fence (we've taken to not wearing helmets much anymore so it could have been nasty) and a few grazes. I just quietly disappeared while she gathered herself, and we set off again, though the atmosphere was a little more grim.

The rest of the day escapes me a little bit, I seem to recall a shower coming out of nowhere, and us sheltering in a giant culvert with two or three other cyclists, we then arrived at our propsoed campsite, only to find it wasn't one, and having to peddal another 10 or 15kms to the next site. I think we were pretty glad to hit the showers, and I also recall three or four beers disappearing pretty quickly after we arrived.

Another wonderful day on the Rhein really.
