Yamaha Rx 135
The one we travelled on... Gurgaon --><-- Binsar
Saturday-26/05/07 1.15 am to Sunday 27/05/07-9.30 pm
It was a typical sunny day in north India, suddenly it started raining in the evening and we thought, its going to be ride in the rains, we had plan to start very early in the morning, 3ish. The destination was about 435 kms from Gurgon, Binsar, serene beauty in uttaranchal. Hitesh and Me were(He and me are team on the road) determined to start any cost. Looking the weather conditions we decided to start at 1 am.
The plan was to start on two YAMAHA RX 135s and all was set to go with bags tied up on the backseats and yes tank fulled! We started as planned and were on the NH8 on the way to Delhi. Suddenly after 3 Kms on the NH8 felt the misfiring of my motorbike and after some troubleshoot both decided not to take chance with it as it seemed some issue with corroborator, so dropped her and kept moving towards the Binsar on single Bike. It’s not advisable to do long trips double seat on a single loaded motorbike unless you both have understanding of
Childhood in Mountains
Few Children playing on a jungle walk ..they had curiosity and fear of unknown... the situation and at luck we had!!
The route to be ridden was,
Gurgaon -->(35 kms) Delhi -->(129) (Ghaziabad-->Hapur-->GarhMukteshwar) Muradabad -->(110 kms) (Rampur -->Bilaspur) Haldwani -->(127 Kms) (Kathgodam--> Bhowali) Almora-->(35 kms) Binsar
And believe me each of these have a different taste of driving.
Gurgaon to Delhi - if you start at midnight, you will have heavy traffic opened on NH8, in a way good motorbikers and as all flyovers are functional now its take about 1.30 Hrs to reach Muradabad Highway crossing Delhi. You will get free Delhi roads which are normally jam packed during the day.
Start - Gurgaon :1.15 am Muradabad Highway crossing Delhi - 2.30 am
Delhi to Muradabad - This is really a test of driver as you start entering in to the UP and start getting the feel of road, this whole road was under repair and was almost functional only on one side. You will not find anything in the world stopping the upper beams from the coming vehicles going in to your retina, we saw one bike going in to the adjacent brick wall and luckly that fellow broke his sleep once in to the
A still from Binsar
woods from the foothills of the Himalayas.... wall, all three survived. You also need to notice that something like a moving giant garlic may appear on the road suddenly (it is cotton being transported in Tractors)
With such conditions on the road you need to be extra careful as delays are expected but we never would like anything unexpected happening on the ride.
It’s advisable if you get good night driving spectacles with anti reflection glasses, those still help.
Only traffic Jam so far we had was about 50 kms from Delhi at railway crossing, however, you feel always lucky on motorbike as it is always finds a space to move ahead and keeps wind going thru your hair !!
We drove all thru the night and only stop taken so far was in Muradabad for 15 mins.
This road is the worst part of the journey and thanks to politics and apathy around that may have been keeping this road ruined - while writing this I really don’t feel very good.
Muradabad: 5.30 am
Muradabad to Haldwani - Early Morning and road was almost quiet thru, beautiful at places as in attached link, and you will get the
A hut and house in the village
A hut and house in the village ... feel of driving at places.
Petrol refilling stations are almost there at every 10 -15 kms so far on the journey.
We needed a strong cup of tea and had it on a small tappri as we call it. The owner, Mohammad suggested us two possibilities to reach Binsar.
One via Bhowali and other one via , but we preferred Bhowali one and bypassing Nainital. You can have taste of local pahadi fruits from roadside arrangements.
Haldwani: 8.15 am
Haldwani to Almora: Here starts the real driving in Mountains and still there is long way ahead to Binsar and all thru the coiled roads.
Hitesh is passionate to drive on Mountains and ‘they call him’ as he believes, didn’t bother to give me trouble to drive on the coiled ones.
Sitting at the back and doing nothing, the fellow on the back seat sometimes feel sleepy and always advisable to have stops and enjoy the beauty around and of course chai & Pakora !!!
Worth mentioning, roads are at best condition in Uttranchal considering the difficulties would have been faced to build and maintain those.
Almora: 12.15 pm
Almora
An abandoned house...
An abandoned house on the village road... is a crowded place in the hills and we thought to stay somewhere a bit away from it and found Dolma Guest House in Kasradevi, Binsar still 19 kms ahead. You will get a double bed room for 600 INRs.
Kasradevi: 1.15 pm
And here finally we decided to have rest with Motorbike, it was running almost non stop all the way, Yamaha Rxs - you always trust those!
After taking an hours rest and lunch, started to walk around and felt rewarded seeing the beauty untouched so far, found a place to seat on a mountain top to listen what silence speaks.
After seating for almost two hrs, walked back had tea with rain drops and finally the day ended with dinner and unbroken sleep.
Way Back:
On the way back, we opted route as:
Binsar --> Almora--> Nainital--> RamNager (Jim Corbett) -->Muradabad --> Delhi -->Gurgaon
Nice drive till Ramnager but as you come nearer to the Capital you start getting traffic coming all the way.
Started: 8.30 am and reached Gurgaon at 9.30 pm, untied the bags on the Motorbike and hey this ride ended with a can of Beer!!!!
Cheers!!!!!
Please Note:
'Bike' is commonly used for motorbike in India.
