the title is a typical, cheesy, tourist phrase referring to the blue (and red) footed boobies found on the islands. we were actually lucky enough to see one today! which ill mention later.

our first night in port we ate at a little pizza place on the water and had a galapaguena pizza, which had fish on it! it was actually really good. afterwards we went to a little bar and had some drinks and played some pool. we tried our first caperinia, which tasted something like a mix of margarita and a sours drink with a lot of lemon, but they were good. happy hour down here is backwards, and didnt start until 10:30 when all caperinias were $1. the special was announced by the little old man that owns the bar ringing a cowbell and dancing. it was a alot of fun.

this morning we woke up and had breakfast (breakfast americano) at a little cafe that included eggs, toast, cheese, juice and coffee for $3 and it filled us up enough to count as lunch too. then we went over to the interpretation center which is a little museum focusing on the natural and human history of the islands. we learned a lot of neat little tidbits about the area and then took off on some of the various hiking trails behind the center.

the hikes were really cool since the islands are volcanic, so we had to hike over all of this really cool, rugged terrain. since we were on the lower part of the island, it was also really arid and desert like, with cacti everywhere. we first hiked up to a really high lookout and got a great view of the ocean. it was pretty hot today, but then the clouds came in and misted through the area, making it really perfect weather for a hike on a hot day. then, after about an hour of hiking, we saw a bath to another beach. we were really tired and almost decided not to go.. luckily we did.

so, we walked another 20 minutes down to this beach..and it was absolutely beautiful! white sand, and pretty blue water. it was also really secluded. we walked down to the water and there was a little baby seal playing right on the shore.. within feet of us. then we decided to walk out to the end of the rock jetty to get a photo of the whole beach. on our way out there, we noticed some birds sitting at the end and decided to get a closer look. turns out, one was a blue footed booby! their feet really are electric blue and it was really awesome! we also got to walk past some seals taking their lunch siestas on the rock.

after that we just headed back into town and are at the internet cafe. we are probably going to grab a smoothie afterwards and just hang out until its time to get dinner. i think we´ve been talked into going on a ´4 day tour´ by some of the other volunteers. everyone of them have gone and said it is awesome. the tour takes you to the other islands and seems easier than trying to arrange our own tours (which turns out to be hard down here since they are really strict about having certified guides.. etc). this tour isnt cheap though and we hadn´t necessarily budgeted for it so we´re not sure.. but if we decide to go for it, we will likely do it next f-m.

anyways, i suppose thats it for now. hope everyone is doing well back home!
