Laos is pretty amazing, after we got off the slow boat to Luang Prabang we stayed there for around 6 days, 3 of which were spent on a trek. The trek was ace but sooooo hard. We biked on day one for around 5 hours in the blistering heat, but it was ok cause there was usually a breeze and there was a lot of fast downhills parts. On day two it was the trek and it started off just fine....but then we started this uphill climb which I immediately found nigh-on impossible, I asked Tong (our guide) how long it would go on for and he said 2 hours. Its safe to say I nearly had an eppie. So I caught up with the others and explained that I wasn't gonna be able to make it, but then we talked about it and Tong then said it may have only been 1 and a half hours. Either way, it was seriously hot and I was seriously pooped. I carried on but with frequent stops until we came to a long stretch of mildly uphill road and I just freaked out! It was around 11.30am and there was nowhere to get even a little bit of shade, I thought I was gonna faint and then I saw what we still had to do and a panic attack came on. So there I was breathing heavily into a plastic bag, snotters all over me fizog just wanting to die. Tong had to help me over to a little bush so I could recover (which took some time). One weird thing that happened though, a wee dude was whizzing by on his motorbike and it turns out he just so happened to have ice lollies with him. So this one guy on our trek, Paul, kindly treated us all to one and even though it tasted rancid, it worked real well on the ole pulse points for cooling down. Then Tong and Jao made me a tree parasol and held it up for me until we got to the village. Day two happened to involve one of the hardest things I've ever had to do - Im kinda proud of myself in a way but also pretty embarrassed about how much I freaked!!! Day three was awesome, we kayakked and swam in the river. Some of the kayakking was white water which was

pretty scary but fortunately for me Agnes rows competitively and she was shouting all sorts of commands to me so we got through - by the skin of our teeth. The kayak tipped a couple of times and we went in - the first time was a little hairy cause we were still in the rapids but the second time we just plopped in for no reason. The river was so cool and refreshing so falling in wasnt so bad.

The night we got back we rewarded ourselves with a few much needed beers and we ended up bowling until the early hours. We've hooked up with some really friendly peeps so far. Since then we've spent the past couple of days chatting to Laos folks and monks trying to perfect our lingo. We are also looking into volunteer work in villages teaching English. Oh yeah and we visited one of the most beautiful waterfalls I've ever seen, the water was so bvlue and it was freezing for swimming, perfecto. There was a bear sanctuary there too with around 10 bears who had been rescued from illegal trading, they were sooooooo super cute wrestling, bathing each other and falling off things.

So we said goodbye to Luang Prabang and our friends Alex and Patrick and hopped onto a 6 hour minibus to Vang Vieng this morning. I was feeling really sick since we got up so alls I can say was that it wasnt the best bus journey in the world. Thankfully we arrived no too long ago (with one sunburnt arm) and we are looking into tubing. It sounds pretty cool, you just float down the river in a tube and stop at bars to have a we drinkie along the way! Vang Vieng certainly seems a bit more of a party town. We have a massive room too - it could sleep four, with an ensuite, all for about 2pound50 per night. GET IN!

;-) xx
