A magical day all round
What more could we ask for on our special day It had reached that time - our wedding was finally upon us and we along with 19 of our closest family and friends all descended upon Positano on the Amalfi Coast in Italy for a week of celebration and for Ange and I to tie the knot.
We had people coming from Australia and the United Kingdom to join us, and beside the excitement of our wedding, it was great to have everyone together, especially since many of them we had not seen for over 12 months.
Half of us where staying at Villa Oliviero, an absolutely stunning villa hanging on the edge of the cliffs overlooking Positano itself. It truely was an indulgent week in an amazing place. The villa offered everything - 6 bedrooms over 4 split levels, a pool, jacuzzi, gardens, two maids and a butler.
While we had an indulgent week with lots of food and alcohol, the stairs around Positano definitely work it off. The weather was a bit erratic, but nothing too bad and the important thing was the wedding day itself was a perfect 10 out of 10.
Our first full day in Positano saw us have a lazy start,
Our villa
high on the cliff overlooking everything in the lead up to the afternoon we had planned for all those who were already in town. Ange and I had decided to have another hens and bucks event, given most people with us were not around in London for the first hens and bucks. Ange had planned a girls afternoon and night having a wander around the surrounding towns of Amalfi and Ravello followed by an eventful dinner at Mama's restaurant. While the guys decided for something a bit more energetic and organised for a guide to take us on a hike straight up the mountains running along the coast to complete the Path of the Gods which takes a leisurely 5 or so hours. We both had great days that offered amazing views and good times.
On the Sunday we decided we would make the most of the fine weather and all headed off to the Isle of Capri. The ferrys were running from Positano out to Capri and it made for a great way to see the mainland's coastline as we chugged along. Once on Capri we all split up to do our own thing. A group of us looked into going out to the
Positano
Along the front Blue Grotto, and one piece of advice would not be to trust all the boat offers you get hounded with - they would bug you to go on their boat and they would take you out there, but most fail to mention that the Blue Grotto can only be accessed if the sea is calm and it is not high tide and they can't gaurantee you will be able to get in (but you know they know the deal and don't give you all the facts - just so they can make the sale). So we were glad we asked at the main tourist area to find out it wasn't possible to get into the Grotto on that day. So without that possibility we made our way up to the fancy part of Capri on the fenicular. Once up there we wander around the high end shops and out to overlook the dramatic coastline and amazing blue water.
The following day was our big day, and while I won't go into the detail, I can say that we had an amazing day and everything went as planned. And of course those of you in the know I am sure
Look out Positano...
...the girls have arrived know where to find the photos of the day itself.
On the day after the wedding, we unsurprisingly all had a pretty lazy day and kicked around for a big lunch altogether and a few afternoon naps. Plus it offered us the chance to try out the jacuzzi for the afternoon as the rain set in for the afternoon.
For Wednesday we decided we would take everyone on the bus and train over to spend the day wandering around the ruins of Pompeii and then back to Sorrento for a bit of shopping, sightseeing, and some great pizza. I must admit Pompeii was a lot bigger than I expected and not as dramatic as I thought it would be. And I only got to see like four or so of the famous body casts of those who had perished in the olden days. Apparently the site of Herculean which is nearby is much better and more in line with what most of us expected. But of course still worth the visit and something we had always wanted to do.
With one last full day up our sleeve before we had to head back to reality the next
day, we decided to spend the day lunching, shopping, and wandering around Positano. It was a great day to just take things slow and take it all in.
All in all we had a great week - and none of us wanted to leave - and some of us almost didn't when our taxi got caught in traffic back to Naples to catch our plane. We made it to check in with 2 minutes to spare - but our time was up and we had to head back to London and the others back to Australia.
Enjoy the photos.
