Le Reve
Alexander and I went to see Le Reve at the Wynn's Hotel/Casino. Hello to all of my readers and thank you for your support! I can not believe I was home in the States for almost two weeks; it flew by and now I am back in Russia. It was good seeing and/or talking to the few of you that I did and sorry to all of the others that we were not able to connect.
April 30, I tried to help Misha out by staying in a hotel close to the airport on Wednesday night, but I think I made it worse. I knew May 1 was a Holiday so I wanted him to have his holiday and not have to work by taking me to the airport, but with everyone leaving for their summer homes, traffic was HORRIBLE! We left the office around 6 PM and got lucky to get behind a police escort. It was a little nerve racking so I just laid back and acted like I was sleeping, but there was no one someone could sleep as hard as Misha was driving/breaking because of the traffic, but he made great time and we were to the airport in 2 hours even with all of the traffic. After
Flamingo at Night
Although I brought my camea, I only took a few pictures. Being the first time in USA, Alexander took ,most of the pictures, including this one of the Flamingo. we lost the escourt (and of course we it was not an escourt for us, but we just happen to get on the tail of it and reaped the benefits), I sat back up and looked at Misha and saw him rolling in sweat. He let out a long and loud sigh and then smilled at me. I thought he was enjoying it, but I guess not as much as I thought. Any ways, he did not get so lucky going home and did not get back to the office until 2 AM. It took him 6 hours! It honestly would have taken us at least 4 hours if we did not get in with that escourt.
A friend of mine from Russia joined me on my trip to the US, which at the time sounded like a great idea at the time, but I did not realize how much energy I would spend trying to make sure he was having a good time. Alexander was a great in terms of going with the flow as well as my friends who took him some places while I doing errands, but when I was not doing errands, I was trying to think of places to take him to see and do so I really did not relax. That is no one fault, but it was one reason I think the trip went so quickly.
I was able to make it to Las Vegas with my dad for our annual father son trip. We are not sure, but we think this is year 16 or 17 we have been going. Although we have not been able to confirm, as our age is catching up with both of us and we do not remember as well as we use to, but one of our goals is to stay at a different hotel/casino each year. Again, we have not confirmed this, but we think we may have already stayed at the Flamingo as some things seemed very familar. Had we known this was going to be an annual event, we should have marked which hotel/casino we stayed at each year, but it has been too many years and too many places, we can hardly remember where we stayed the last year...lol I am not making fun of my father as I can not remember myself and he has done a better job of trying to put the list together. I told him we may be able to go back to old credit card statements, but we decided it was not worth all of that effort.
I did not originally plan on it, but when I realized last Sunday before I left was Mother's Day, I called Mom to see what she had planned. It was one of the few weekends she was free so it worked out perfectly to fly up and visit her. It was an expensive trip to fly just for the day, but it was well worth it to me. The weather did not work in our favor because it delayed flights in the morning and the plane we were suppose to fly out on to Dayton was hit by lighting as it was landing so they had to find us a new plane. It ended up delaying us about two hours so when I did finally arrive, we did not have time to go back to the house to eat, but Mom planned for it and brought the pie and cookies with her. We went to lunch and talked then did a little shopping before I flew back that early evening. (By the way Mom, the cookies only made it for three servings and were gone before I ever landed in Russia! Thank you!)
For some reason, I was not ready to come back. I am usually packed the day or two ahead of time, but this trip, I waited until Monday late Sunday night. I guess I did not get to see everyone that I wanted and I also knew there were a lot of problems at work waiting for me so I just was not excited about coming back. To make matters worse, when I do get back, guess what, they have the hot water turned off in Obninsk so only cold water. I started boiling some so I could make a bath, but I really wanted a nice long hot shower when I got back. After my sponge bath and learning it was going to be a few more days before we got hot water back, I hooked up my small instant hot water heater. It does not give me hot water but at least I can get warm water for a shower. I still can not believe a country of this power and knowledge, turns off their hot water for all of their people. It can not be sanitary! I know, I have talked about that before in an earlier blog so I will not discuss it again and thank goodness, it was back on Thursday.
Oh, and the cafe is open again! I met Freddie and Leo there on Tuesday after they got off work and I did a little unpacking. And now, do to the visa situation, I am "stuck" here in Russia for 30-60 days. I can actually leave, but I will not be allowed back in the country for 90 days. They are working on converting my single entry work visa to a multiple entry one which takes 30-60 days so if there are any trips, they will be intra-Russia, which is too bad because there is a Holiday weekend coming up in June that I wanted to go to Helenski, but I think Leo and I may go to Saint Petersburg as he has never been.
Take care and thanks again for all of the support.
