Jungle trekking is the way forward indeed. got back at around 4.30pm yesterday, sweaty, dirty and so damn satisfied. I was so proud of myself for hauling my ass around a jungle for three days. There were hairy moments when I thought I may go into panic attack mode but NO I didn't and I feel so much stronger for it! The only thing was that we all wanted more trekking on the trip so we are getting a privately organised tour together for us 5 people (pending others) to go on a 5 day trek further North.
On day one, after getting some bits and bobs from the market, we travelled by truk to the elephant camp where we spent about an hours trek with them. I felt bad for my hephalump for having to haul me around - there was a distint slant on our little seat and I was worried I would break his back. He was so cool and pretty greedy. I bought a bunch of around 30 bananas and he just kept putting his trunk up to gobble them up. We ran out about 20min into the trek and when he didnt get any more
he went into a massive huff and stood still for a while! So I didnt quite get what I should have got from the elephant ride cause I was a bit concerned about him the whole time. It was cool though. And they have amazing comedy feet! We then trekked mostly uphill for about 3 hours to the lahu village. In between we jumped into a waterfall and freshened up. The waterfall's were definately a highlight of the jungle trek for me! When we got to the village I was pleasantly surprised to find how non-touristy it was and the peeps were just going about their daily do's and not minding us much. We had a wee stroll into the village and ended up playing with a couple of little kiddies there for a while.
Dinner was a tasty pumpkin soup (bit like massaman curry only with pumpkin) and some curry and rice - well tasty!! Then we had a couple of beers and Bo brought his guitar out. They played some western stuff for us and sang but then also played some great Thai tunes. Then I had a wee turn and it was so nice to play
guitar after so many weeks of being without. The compliments were flying around too which felt warm and fuzzy. It has since been decided that I should be a travelling photographer/musician. Well I have my own opinion on that! It was an ace night and everyone got on soooooo well. Chuffed. The sleeping was communal in this bamboo hut and it was pretty cold. However, Agnes and I had a late night the night before so we managed to get an ok sleep. The cocks were crowing real loud in the morning though. Day two was a 10.30 trek to the next waterfall (seeing a few villages on the way). The trek was much easier and mostly downhill so we didnt feel like we were worked too hard! The waterfall was ace though and it was just deep enough for a nice swim. More kids were running around and this time they were super super friendly. Patrick and Uland were arm wrestling them and they posed for me for some shots. We trekked a bit more to our second-night's jungle camp which was surprisingly lush. We all then piled into the little kitchen hut and invaded whilst Bo, Jack and
Kai cooked us up some tasty tasty grub. Jack (sparrow) made us a hot papaya salad (the papayas were straight from the tree - he chopped them down with his impressively-sized machete). However, this was a HOT papaya salad and we were all blown away by it! My lips went completely numb and Uland cried.....a lot! We had chang beer to sort it out though so it wasn't all bad. We whiled away the hours drinking, singing and playin cards. It was a good night.
Day three was a bit more leisurely still. 10.30 start and it was raining which made all the little muddy trails incredibly slippery. I was pretty scared a couple of times when I lost my footing but jack sparrow was on hand to hoist me up the harder bits!! We then white water rafted which was just freakin awesome and then bamboo rafted for a wee while. Our guides tipped the bamboo raft before the very end and we all went under. So exhilarating!! Saying goodbye to our guides was tough cause we had such a good time with them, particularly with Bo. He was just a lovely guy.
Anyway, thats a bout
we are pretty sure this groping monk was an imposter
and I reckon he was trying to photograph Agnes' boobies. Monks aren't supposed to have any contact with ladies and yet he was inhaling our hands and refusing to let go....a bit freaky but funny nonetheless! it for this one, short and sweet cause I have travelly-type things to do!!
More on the 5 day trek soon y'all.
