So I was asked to explain why I'm traveling in New Zealand. Here is a quick breakdown:
Who: Just me
Where: All around New Zealand. I started in the south island (Christchurch) where my old roommates (James and Julia) just moved to. Currently I'm in the Bay of Islands in a Hostel called the Bay Adventure in Paihia. Next I plan on heading south of Auckland to see some other towns and do some Black Water Rafting (google it)
When: I started out May 3 and I'm back June 10
Why: I've never really gone on vacation to another country. There is more to this world than just Canada and I want to see it and what it has to offer. I'm a poor student who can't really afford to travel, but if I don't force myself to start I fear that I never will.

So far: New Zealand has been beautiful. The people are super nice and there is so much to see and do here. The history is really apparent in their architecture. While this isn't a very old country they have amazing stone buildings that really add a lot of class and character to the community. It also seems that the government is a lot less "in your face" like in Can/Us which is also really nice: It speaks more for personal responsibility of the individual than letting the government control so many aspects of a persons life. I went Kayaking the other day and we were just handed the paddles and a life vest. Thats it. No forms. No 30min safety demo. Just go. Not having everything dumbed down to the greatest common denominator is refreshing.

Anyways thats all from me for now. I'm off to go on a hike with some people. There is this woman here who I swear is older than 80 and she is able to out hike everyone here.
