Bus strikes suck. They really do. Last Monday a bunch of the taxi and bus drivers went on strike protesting the price of gas. I can get anywhere within Managua without problem but to try to get to Chacocente. hah. Won't work. I can get the bus as far as Tipitapa where I would then normally pick up a bus to Masaya but they aren't running. The other teachers have been going in trucks that are running from Tipitapa to Masaya every day. They're like..pirated trucks haha. But theyre more dangerous, especially for me, a little white girl, so I havent gone to the project at all in the last week. Its been nice to hang out around the house, I'm not gonna lie, but I MISS THE PROJECT! I only have one week left in the country and I was really wanting to spend as much time with all of them as possible before I went home but it looks like that won't be happening. But theres a girl here visiting from the US and shes wanted to go to the project and also hasnt been able to so my lovely Dad said hes gonna take us tomorrow because he has the afternoon free. And I'm going to find some way to get there on friday too because its supposed to be my going away party. Im gonna cry so much! My kids! I'm scared to leave them because at least now I can almost always be there and make sure they're okay and all and I'm worried about what will happen when I can't be there taking care of them. I'm too protective sometimes I guess haha.

I can't really believe I only have one week left here. It's...scary. I'm getting into my terrified stage now because I'm going home to a new house, a new church, looking for a job, and friends and I DON'T LIKE CHANGE. hahaha. I have adjusted to my life here so now I'm not too excited to have it all change like mad again. Granted I'm excited to see Momma and Dada, and to go to college but also I like my life here. It's normal, its generally routine, and I like it haha.

So almost two weeks ago we had a rummage sale type thing at the church. Some churches in the states were nice enough to donate money to us that we could use to buy nice products to sell and also some things to sell were sent from the US! People of the church also donated items so we were selling things like clothes, jewelry, shoes, make up, things for the house, bibles (we had the spanish version of a Cokesbury table, it was sweet!) and a bunch of other things. And of course, tons of food! The church ended up making at least $600, but I think even more than that. And in Nicaragua, that is a TON of money. So thank you to those that donated!!!

I went to the movies the other day. Usually when I go the movie is in English with Spanish subtitles. But we went to one that was in Spanish. And I understood it. I was so excited! I still don't speak it as well as I understand it but whatever. Not a big deal.

I'm here for you
Babe, I want to see you when you come home! I'm going to China with Furman this summer (also where I'm going to school - Furman, not China! haha), and I have to be in SC for orientation a day before - perhaps we could work out some way for me to come earlier and us to meet? It's around June 26. I won't pretend to know how hard it will be to adjust after living in Nicaragua for 10 months, but I want you to know that you can call me ANYTIME - that is, after I find my phone...hm. Well, I'm here for you! I love you! :-*

whoa- I just called my family in Tipitapa to say hi and they told me about the strike so I looked it up on the internet to learn more and here was your blog! Random- I'm like, I know that girl! I am sure it will be quite the adjustment coming back to the US but just take a few deep breaths, stay close to home, family and friends for the first couple of weeks and it will be OK. Send my saludos a todo la gente de chacocente!!! Un Abrazo!! BROOKE
