I am in Germany safe and sound. I hate to say it, but the following entry will probably have a lot of typos. Like more than the various number I often have. On German keyboards the y and the z are in different places. I spent 10 minutes trying to find the @ symbol, and I have to do a bunch of complicated manoevers to get it. I have no idea where the question mark is, or a few other punctuation keys. Perhaps I will attempt to write this entire thing without those letters or signs.

I am quite sad to be gone from Ireland. I had a great time with Angela and her friend Teresa on my last day. (It is next to impossible to not use the letter y). We drove around to a bunch of towns and went to a discount store where some nice clothes were being sold for as little as a pound. From there we drove to Malahide which is a beach town not too far from Dublin. It is a beautiful little ocean town. We walked around and had lunch in a pub. I was lucky because my last three days there were beautiful. It hardly rained at all, basically it was an Irish heat wave. Im fairly certain its because Im so special (Alex Hawkins style side bar--I cant find the apostrophe key.. this is quite difficult. Things are hard in Germany). But inspite of this lovely weather, there was a very strange mist or fog over the ocean. It was so bad from just on the edge of the beach on the sidewalk, you couldnt even really see the water. Nevertheless, it was very beautiful. Angela was right, it didnt feel like Ireland. We made a quick stop in another little town, then they took me to the train station, where I caught the train to Dublin.

It was really great to meet my family and see the area where my grandpa lived. I was his favorite after all, so it was nice to connect in that way. We all know I was his favorite. Whitneys feet are too big, Dallas and Michael are too ugly, and everyone else is too old. Im the Goldie Locks of the cousins, just right. Anyway, we have some really fun and crazy Irish relatives that Im happy that I know now. I hope to see them again some day... I do plan on coming back to Ireland. Actually, Jessi and I are going to try and organize something where we grab a couple of other friends, rent a car, and drive around the country for two weeks.

*************

I cheated, I wrote that last part a while ago, so now its Thursday and this is alreadz my third day in Heidelberg. I still have no idea where the punctuation keys are on this thing. Im still perpetually annoyed by the switch of the z and y keys. This is a beautiful town. It really is Europe. Guess what everyone, Im in Europe! Its a very cute place though. It is exactly where Anja needs to be. There are expensive stores selling nice clothes (it is a very expensive little city, mostly full of rich people), lots of German kinder running around, and everyone speaks German! What the heck is Anja doing in Edmonton. NEIN KINDRE! I still know almost no German. I almost find it funny to be so oblivious.

Being with Jessi basically means Im on yet another bender. So my first night here we went out to a Spanish restaurant, then we went to a few bars and had drinks. I couldnt walk in a straight line on the way home, thats all Im going to say. The next morning, we got up and went to visit her friend Ellen. Shes originally from New York, but is a University professor. Everyone here bikes. I do mean everyone, little kids, seniors... doesnt matter. So I borrowed the Fraus bike and we road to Ellens. Hung over no less. They have specific parts of the sidewalk and roads just for bikes, so drivers, unlike in Edmonton, are hyper aware of them. No one wears helmets.. at first I was a little nervous, but after a few minutes it was great. Theres like bike traffic jams. Its cool. Ellen has the most beautiful apartment, the building used to be a convent, and its really stunning. She made us brownies and lattes, so our hungover breakfast was quite the adventure. The rest of the day I played assistant to Jessi. It was sort of fun to spend time with her and the kids. She never had all three of them at once. I really quite like the youngest one. Hes only three and he thinks Im funny. He always asks me why I dont just speak to him in German. None of the kids understand English, well their English is about as good as my German. HOUND (im sure i didnt spell that right). So its funny. He likes to make fun of Jessi. So basically hes the perfect child. The oldest boy, Flo, also likes me because I played soccer with him for almost an hour. I miss it. It was nice to convince myself that Im still as good as I was because I was able to beat a 9 year old easily. The weather here has also be stunning, weve been sitting around 25... so its really quiet perfect.

Jessi also has a straighten. So again I dont look like a hobo so much. My clothes arent German standard really, but at least my hair is hot!

After Jessi and I went out again.... its a German bender. Although Jessi was much worse than I was this time. I could in fact walk in a straight line on the way home. This morning we were a little... slow... but I did get out and walk around the town, took some photos, did some laundry. But I continue to have banking problems. What I could do in Ireland by going to the bank, no one here seems to want to let me do it. So Im going to try Western Union tomorrow.

The family leaves for Italy tomorrow, and Jessi leaves on Saturday. I plan on taking the train to France tomorrow. I didnt book in advance though, so it will be a bit more expensive. Now with this money thing being a problem yet again.. Im a little nervous. Hopefully we can figure something out tomorrow. Other than that, I really like it here. Everyone really does speak English. Even when they just say, just a little...

So if all turns out, my next entry should be from France. A bientot!

Lana, thanks to your Mom, I too am enjoying reading your travelogue. You are so funny and some of your experiences I can identify with. We won't say which ones... I can see that you are having a grand time and possibly mulling over a future play for the Fringe..... based on some of your experiences and people you are meeting.... Simone
