look at those bikes!
mike and debbie...thanks! to the land of the cacti...i feel a song or something there, hmmm...well, we are officially in mexico (as of 3 days ago) and thoroughly immersed in a language we don't really know. however, we are getting by pretty well. tonight we are camping for free at mama espinoza's in el rosario. but before mexico, there are a couple of other things to recount....
for those with a dream of driving through los angeles on an overladen, early 80s motorcycle...enjoy. the 80 mph weaving crazy drivers are not the fodder of fairy tales like your parents told you.
san diego was much kinder to us. the downtown hostel was a great place to thin out our gear and ditch the cold weather items. but even better was the little cycle shop down in national city...mike, rob, debbie...you guys are awesome! how many shops can you go to and then end up having dinner and spending the night at the owners house?
back to mexico, great thus far...other than el parque nacional de san pedro martin doesn't allow motorcycles in past the park gates...so we camped in the outskirts and hiked in (our old carbuerated bikes worked pretty well at 8000 ft).
Ensenada
Nathan in Ensenada absolutely beautiful, before this trip i had always imagined baja to be a land of beaches and desert...i had no clue about all of the mountains.
tomorrow we cross a notorious section of baja...lots of desert and mountains and not a lot of gas for our bikes.......not exactly an ideal combination. we'll see how that goes...
well, take care all, we'll post again soon! nate
Well, I think Nathan covered most of it..but ·I had to add my two cents (for those of you that know me, thats very lindsie-esque). Baja has treated us well thus far. We spent the first night in Ensenada at this RV park type of place which was a little on the spendy side, but was secure and had hot showers which have been hard to find since. We were headed to the Parque Nacional de Sierra San Pedro Martir the next day but were detoured due to Nathan having a bad headache. So we found ourselves lost on some dirt road outside of a small town that was supposed to have a hostle on it. Unfortunately we never found the hostel and ended up camping off a dirt road...but it was right on
lunch stop
cute oasis in La Bufadora the ocean so it worked out just fine. We finally made it to the Parque yesterday which was an amazing drive off the beaten path. We traversed about 8,000 miles and found ourselves in a Juniper and Ponderosa Pine forest scattered with metamorphic rocks. (Geoff, if you're reading this, it reminded me of the Tenaway Valley in eastern washington...no swiss cheese though). If you see the pictures, you would never guess we were in mexico!! And tonight, thanks to mama espinoza, we find ourselves behind a restaurant. Well I must go, as I think it's closing time....which means off to el tento.... as always, miss you all
I saw this quote today and had to share it as it is very fitting-
" I wonder whats on the otherside of that hill over yonder?
Should we try that road or maybe just stop?
Throw caution to the wind, and let the tires spin.
It's the only way to find out or not."
