Current Mood: Ready for the Sunshine!
What to say… after a chilled Friday night of playing a few tunes that I have not mastered at all we set out early to the Stanford for a Saturday morning pick up. A good mob of us met for our bus ride to the ferry for the 24th birthday of Whitney and Hamish.
The gang consisted of two kiwis one of who were Mauri.. Brendon and Ria, the south African twins, two Yorkshire lasses a taff one ozzy and myself. You can imagine the diversity of accents. Half of the time I didn’t know what was going on. We all got to the ferry port and picked up our mountain bikes for our transport when on the island. We had a blast. The ferry started up with a box of beers and crisps just to set us on our way. The ferry ride took around 40 minutes and on arrival we helmeted up and shot to the nearest pub for some tucka. The weather was nice and the island looked to be a blast. After an hour or so of drinking and eating we shot over to our accommodation.. the Kingston Barracks.
They reminded me of school camp or what the boys would know as bell heath where we would be sent on adventures with school doing things like orienteering and nature studies. This was strange enough for us all but drinking was to be done so clearing a big area in the dorm for a table we pushed all of the bunks together so there would be two massive beds for all to crash in. hahahah this was only the beginning. The island was a cool little place though very much like a resort with a handful of gift shops.. art galleries and restaurants. We cycled about for a while before deciding it was tome to set back for another binge drinking session. I am honestly off the piss as soon as this weekend is over.
We began out side until the rangers told us we had to be inside. So moving on in we attracted visitors from all over our camp. Our dorm it seemed was the place to be. Koreans after irish after English after more Koreans our room was looking trashed. Card games fuelled more drinking and Brendon got up to show us some Mauri dancing. He
got on the Harmonica which was amazing. I tried but failed and with my persistent interest Brendon gave me my own Harmonica. I didn’t know what to say. From there on in I was blowing random noises in an attempt to play the blues I love to hear everybody else play. I’m not a natural but ill keep trying hahahaha. After a monster day of drinking everything in sight and a massive bbq dinner my belly was filling up with no drunk state near so I called it a day with Chris and crashed out on my monster bed. Id like to say I slept but on waking to Ria getting in on one side of me and Brendon on the other the snoring let me see a sunrise in slow motion. I was knackered the next day.
Having finished all of the beer we had took with us we decided to get the use out of the bikes. The rain made it a difficult day but never the less we had a good one. I scooted about the place checking out the coast lines with the other behind. The island would have been perfect without the rain. The
cold got the better of us so we all got into the warmth of the pub on the island and awaited our ferry there! After getting a snoozy ferry ride home my agenda was to get showered and have a chilled two days until my flight to Broome. I spent most of my time sitting through chris’s shifts at the pub just catching up with him before leaving. On the Wednesday I was to be flying out and with the nice offer from Brendon to take me to the airport we drank my final night in with some fantastic Guitar by this Mauri talent and pizza. The next day I said a sad goodbye to my cousin and the guys before hitting the bar in the airport in wait for my two hour flight to north WA. So far WA has been great but the south is cold so im heading fort he heat. Am I in for a shock…. This heat would be more than I was used to so starting on the pearl farms may be a slog.
Until broome guys..
Love from a brummy!! Niki
