Tour Day: San Francisco

The six of us went to San Francisco today (Bea and Barney went to visit family) and we had the perfect day for being there. It was warm and there was no wind. Wonderful! Bob and I had been there the week before, and it was cool, and by mid-afternoon the wind had come up…not pleasant, weatherwise. But today it was perfect.

We all had lunch on Pier 39 at Fisherman’s Wharf, and spent time looking through the shops. There are sea lions that live at that pier, and we spent quite a bit of time watching them, and then left on a motor cable car tour for the afternoon. It's an old cable car that they've renovated and put a motor into. It was interesting to see the different parts of the city, as well as getting some history. Did you know they have a Japantown as well as Chinatown? And if you go two blocks further you think you're in Italy, and then it becomes India....

Painting the dorms is going well, and the gazebo is going great! It looks so good. I'll do a posting later

These sea lions live in the pier area, and, as far as we could tell, these platforms are there just for their pleasure. I know that's what the sea lions think! We watched one sun herself with one flipper in the water, and everyone once in a while she would flip water up over her~~apparetnly she got hot!
that shows the steps they've done so far.

There's a man hiding behind the bush, and as people walked down the pier he would separate his branches and spook the people! People would stand and wait for an unsuspecting person to come along, and wait for them to be scared. By the end of the day his branches were pretty pathetic, but still effective for our entertainment! His name was Bushman (duh!)

This was the week Bob and I were there (on Saturday.) We didn't see him when we were there on Friday for tour day.

I know you've seen a picture like this a hundred times, but isn't it awesome? See the cables that swoop down on either side? I'll tell you more about them in a minute.

"Be sure to tighten bolts securely." Yikes! PS There was no troll under this bridge!

They quit using this as a prison in 1964, because they discovered it cost less to house the prisoners in the Waldorf Austoria! It's now open to tourists. (we didn't go. I wasn't even a bit interested in it, and Bob was only a bit interested.) We watched the Bushman instead!
