G'day everyone!
Well thats us in Australia now after a long journey from Santiago via Auckland, with lots of time changes and a missing day as we crossed over the International Date Line. Ashley met us at Melbourne Airport and it was as if we had seen each other last week, no suprise there!! Spent our first day catching up, eating and poor Ashley actually asked to see ALL the pics so far so we had a slide show! Went out that night for a few drinks but were home at a reasonable time due to jet lag beginning to set in and Ashley had work the next day!!
The next day while Ashley was at work we headed into the City to get to the shops!! Only kidding we were going to try get our bus ticket for up the coast etc but we did manage to spend a few dollars on essential items, or at least thats how I justified it to Martyn!! Was good being back in amongst shops and english speaking people, but a world away from South America and now it seems like a distant memory so sad! Petes mum and dad are staying
with Ashley and Pete so their friends James and Jo are away right now so they have kindly let us stay in their house. Its great its so nice and so good having our own space and not sleeping in bunk beds at least for a week!! So that night we got out the duty free vodka and Ashley had us on the drinking games very early so you can imagine what we were like, also our friend Tanya whom we met 3 years ago while we were in Cambodia came out with us. She lives in Melbourne aswell, so was good to catch up and remember all the funny times! Was a great night and good to be back in bars instead of drinking in hostels all the time!!
So on saturday were feeling tender so it was a pretty quiet day and we just slept and ate a lot, al almost like being back at home!! Now as we are now 11 hours ahead of the UK, the Old Firm game was to be on here at 11.30pm, bear in mind Martyn has been so excited about this game since we left home so my god my
fingers were crossed they would win!! Ashley is mad Rangers fan aswell so she took us to her friends mum and dads house who have moved out here to watch the game. Robert is a crazy Rangers fan aswell so the excitment was building! We had a lovely dinner that Gill made and we were spolied rotten with baby pies at half time! Anyway the game was a success of course and Rangers won 1-0 so happy people!! After the game the Wii came out and my goodness so much fun thats def on the wish list for when we get home!! Had a great night and was SO glad they won!!
So Sunday again was shaping up to be a bit of a right off but we went for lunch in St Kilda and walked along the beach front, although as it is rather chilly here this now there was no sun tans happening!!At night we went over to Ashley and Petes for a BBQ with his mum and dad, needless to say we took a night off the drinking and were home in bed nice and early!!
On Monday we went back into the city and
then went to the Aquraium, it was really good fun they had sharks and huge stingrays and we got to watch them being fed. They also had lots of creepy crawlies and we seen a Huntsman spider, my goodness it was horrible wouldnt like to meet it outside of the box it was in!! Then we took a walk to Crown casino, as we do everywhere we have been that they have a casino and spend some money! I won $10 onthe slots which was exciting!! At night we went out for mexican food with Ashley and Ella. Ella is Ashleys mums friend from school and she moved out here 14 years ago, we stayed with her the last time we were in Melbourne, so it was good to catch up.
On Tuesday we hired a car to head down The Great Ocean Rd, as you have to be over 25 to drive a hire car I was to be doing all the driving, just wonderful!! So it was a beautiful day which was a lovely change from the last few days, we had the picnic packed and ready to go. Stopped in Torquay and the famous Bells Beach
where they had just finished holding the Rip Curl Pro'08 so that was pretty cool. The drive is just beautiful and although I had done it before it was 10 times better with the sun out! So after 5 hours we reached the 12 Apostles although I think there are only 6 left as they are being slowly eroded away but still pretty impressive. We even got fish and chips on the way home which were yummy although Martyn says they were not a patch on Sammys!!
The last few days we were just spent enjoying our having our own space out of hostels and hanging with Ashley. Although a major drama, I managed to delete ALL the pics we had taken so far in Melbourne, so gutted there was hundreds of great ones esp of Ashley and I!! Might be able to recover them but its 50/50 I was very sad!! Anyway Martyn has a few on his so will get them up here in a couple of days, although since we arrived in Sydney this morning we have far too many fun things to be doing!!
Lots of Love from OZ xxxxxx
