Well, today is Guy Fawkes day here in NZ. A day that really kicks off summer here. The story behind Guy Fawkes is that in the 1500's he tried to burn down (I think British) Parliment with gunpowder. His brilliant plan was foiled and he was hung till he was just about dead. Then they had him quartered and drawn, and then dragged behind a horse until he was dead. Locals here celebrate by having BBQ's and Fireworks at night. We're "celebrating" this quite morbid holiday here at the hostel which is nice. It's a potluck and fireworks at about 8:30.
I spent today doing some laundry, and it's nice because they have a big clothesline here, so I don't have to spend the money on a dryer! (yeah no $9 down the drain!) I have my room all to myself, which is very lucky for any hostel! I went to the local Home Depot which is called Mitre 10, and priced some wood for the bed I'll be making for the back of the van. I checked out the Fairy Pools just behind the hostel here. You can swim in them, and it's nice to relax and sit on the grass down there, but the water is WAY too COLD, so maybe next month if I'm still in the area. There is also a Maori village here, and the oldest stone building in NZ here that I can check out. I've also found a good chiropractor so I can adjusted on a regular basis if my back is bothering me. Good thing is, if I'm bored here, they have all 3 Lord of the Rings movies, so I'm all good. The weather here is very nice, it was sunny all day, but without the humidity, so I'm in heaven! Hope it's not too cold at home 😊
