St Andrews Abbey
Or something like that. Might actually be the cathedral, we didn't pay an enormous amount of attention as we walked round as wind was blowing a mighty brisk breeze! Its the big religious ruin at the end of one of the main streets anyhow. Well, our 3 months lazing period has come to an end again as Alan has got another contract down in Knutsford. He has left today to start work there again tomorrow and Beth and I will be following on shortly to stay down there full time, returning to Uddingston every second or third weekend to make sure our house is still standing. The plan actually was that we would both find work in Glasgow or poss Edinburgh but unfortunately Financial Services hasn't got much to offer by way of decent contracts in Scotland at the moment so we're just embracing the change again and heading back down South. We were dead organised and found a lovely little house in Knutsford to rent for the duration, but on the day we were due to finalise everything the woman at the agency rung to say that the house had been sold. Couldn't believe it - we were raging, but hey ho - what can we do but look for another place I suppose. Alan has a couple to check out tomorrow so fingers and toes crossed an all that.
The upside of being down there is that we are only about 15
mins away from Manchester Airport, so bring on the cheapo holiday weekends in Europe!!! Ryanair and Easyjet both fly from Manchester so we'll be watching for the sales to be advertised and then our digits will be smoking as we get booking online!
Righto, this is just a very short blog this time, and has some photos of a couple of day trips we took last week with Beth to Deep Sea world in North Queensferry, and another day out in St Andrews. Deep Sea world is very good although to be fair, if you have seen one you have seen them all as its the usual aquarium malarky with lots of tropical Nemo type Clownfish, and the obligatory ''walk through the glass tunnel and see the sharks and rays'' type shennanigans. The sharks were being fed while we were there, and it would have been fantastico if only the woman on the tannoy wasn't shouting so bloody loud. Poor Beth was all confused and shaky as it was pretty deafening as the conveyor belt went past each speaker.. Grrr. One thing about aquariums though.... we ALWAYS think they are going to be nice and cool and so we
wear lots of layered clothing, but they are actually ALWAYS roasting hot. Is it just us or does anyone else do that and end up as surprised as we get?
St Andrews was lovely on the day we visited (which was incidentally the 90th Anniversary of the RAF being set up) - it was teaming with rain as we left Glasgow, but by the time we got to the East coast it was gloriously sunny and bright. We had top lunch of pasta which Beth wouldn't eat of course and strolled around the elegant streets afterwards, cone in hand. There are heaps of delis there these days you know, and also we spied quite a few pubs and restaurants of same chains as you would find in Edinburgh,(Howies for one) which only served to encourage Alan to call it Edinburgh by the Sea a few more times than he was doing already.
OK, we're off for the night and will catch you all very soon we hope - and feel free (all family n friends anyway) to come down for a visit to Knutsford once we are settled. Will let you know addresses etc one we get down.
Beth dressed up as a fish at Deep Sea World
She's such a brilliant sport for the dressing up - wonder who she takes it from?? Ta ta,
