Puerto Varas, Chile...

Probably one of my favorite places yet. It's likely because of where I stayed and the family that owned it but the town was beautiful too. I stayed at Hospedaje - Estrella de Belen run by Miguel, Sandra and cute little Belen. They helped me decide where to go, what to do and I got to practice my Spanish with Belen and she practiced her English. We were at about the same level so it was good. If you ever make it to Puerto Varas I highly recommend staying here.

Also, did a day trip and walked on dried lava from the Osorno Volcano, a catamaran from Petrohue to Peulla and back, and Canopy (a cable) through the trees in Peulla, eeeeeek! Again absolutely beautiful.

Then took an afternoon trip to Frutillar a little beach town 20 minutes from Puerto Varas.

Now using a disposable camera....

Santiago, Chile...

From Puerto Varas went on to Santiago. A little bit of a culture shock from the cute, homey feel of Puerto Varas. I got off at the bus station to a mob of people, graffiti everywhere and no place to stay. I spent 4 hours in the bus station looking for a place to stay before landing at NH hotel.

You can't go to Santiago and not go on a wine tour, so I went on a wine tour. Joined by Will from Los Angeles and 6 others we went to Santa Cruz for some wine. The wine was good but the stories told by the guide made the trip.

The stray dogs of Santiago love me! I bought bags of dog food and fed every stray dog I could find on the street and they ate until they couldn't eat any more! What a great day!

I now have a new camera, so stay tuned...

From here Mendoza, Argentina...
