YAYA, well our trip of the netherlands and amsterdam is now nearly complete! it has been a wild ride and yes i can now say i have been stoned, i prefer drinking, but i think you just gotta do it while in amsterdam, the coffee shops are hilarious, its illegal to advertise it, and strict laws on how much per person at one time, and the same with the shops. We met up with lex and travis on friday night, and went out and had a big night drinking, smoking and checking out the red light district, pretty much most of the night was spent wandering around at snails pace and just taking in the sights of the canals and the nightlife, pretty relaxed place they have here, we're trying to work out what you cant do here. lol.
yesterday after our arses stopped hurting from the freakin bike trip we did on friday we had to change hotels, and we found that the hostel i had booked as it was cheap was a good 1hour out of town, and that just so was not cool, so i spent some time on the net and couldnt get on here cos of time, and found nowhere available, so we went for a walk, and found a hotel booking place, and found a place that is twin share, just out of city centre, like 10 minute tram ride, but right in the heart of the bars and clubs of amsterdam, and it was 60euro a night between us, so yes its a little bit of a splurge, and no we havent stayed in an actuall backpackers, and i looked at our directions for the hostel in vienna tomorrow night, it seems we might be a fair way out of town there too, directins say to get on a train and where we get off is the end stations. lol, i dont care! we're not meeting ky or katie there till thursday or wednesday or something. so yesterday we went out and hit the local nightlife near our hostel, and it was such a drunk night, i know we wandered around this one square for a while trying to find a club, only to realise we've been wandering around the same 50metre square for about 20 minutes, directions here are shot to pieces as all the roads and canals look the same, but we hada a good night and ended up sleeping till nearly midday today, which i havent done in years! so that was great, except the room next door has a really squeaky door, and they keep coming in abnd out of the room like every 5 minutes, its crazy. and bloody annoying,. anyway today we went on a free guided tour of amsterdam, and we saw the female prison, and the male one, and got to know a little of how amsterdam was built, they had to dam up the Amstel river and create canals, and the airport we flew into is 3metres under sea level, which is pretty cool, we saw the old port, which is now a square, visited the "coffee"shop where they filmed a bit of oceans 12 in, saw anne franks house, finally, we've been looking for it for days, and now have no time to visit, we saw the rebuilt and 60's decorated new jewish section of the city, not new as such, just not the old one that got ripped to shreds after ww2 due to the city having its worst ever winter, and no fuel or food for the city, so they dont have any trees here that are older than about 40 years, and as there were no jews in that quarter, they started to rip the doors out and anything else that would burn, even though they didnt want to apparently, so in the 60's the city decided to rebuild it as they felt a little shamed, and so it was decorated in 60's fashion, lol. the tour was really cool and explained a bit of the history of the place, and the guide was american, but really cool, yes i said but, but she was really cool. after the tour trav and lex had to go meet there tour group that they are joining tonight, and we went and got our train seats booked for our trip to vienna tommorrow! on a high speed train and all! i havent found a place to put up some photos yet, not card reader for my sd card, but it will happen people!
this city was pretty cool though, very relaxed and i like all the architecture and canals, and how we saw the highest point which was a tiny little bridge near the red light district,
anyhow i gotta run, its 9pm sunday night at the moment, and we're going to go have a few beers and see how the night goes, its much quieter than last night, but i'm sure we'll find some pumping bars!
so hope your all having a ball!
love and hugs·!
Benny
