I traveled from Amsterdam to Brussels with Adina and Lina who is a very good friend from Lithuania. We took a bus from Eurolines company. This trip was exactly 3 hours 45 minutes.

After our arrival to Amsterdam, we did not have any idea where to go but our smart friend Lina had an ace under her sleeve. She knew we had to take first a bus 15 with direction to the north of Amsterdam and after that a bus 17. We got lost in this city, and Agne who was Lina’s friend from Lithuania, had to come to pick us up somewhere in the city to take us to the apartment. Shame on us!

We went to her beautiful apartment which is nothing compared to the ones that are in Brussels where usually trainees live. It was in a very tall and modern building on the 13th floor, with a lot of space in the reception and a very interesting chair for people who are waiting for the lift. After leaving our luggage there we went to meet our dearest friend Karina from Peru. The appointment was at 7:50 PM at the tram station called Dome where

is the heart of Amsterdam. We decided to walk around and go further to find a good and cheap place to eat because we were starving.

What can I say about this Dome area? It is nice with a lot of tourists but noting really special to see at this point. What I can say is that very close are several museums like Sex Museum and Torture Museum. Close by is also, in my opinion what attracts most of the tourists to this city, a place you cannot see everywhere and just in a free city like Amsterdam it is possible to appreciate: The Red Light District.

This place breaks all the taboos. It is a long street where I could see here lots of prostitutes behind windows with red light around it, showing their bodies with sexy clothes in order to get some money from the clients. I think this about being behind a window is a wonderful idea because unlike in Brussels these poor women have to be with these clothes in the middle of the rain or even snow, and you can imagine how cold it can be. I heard that for 20 minutes of

their services the price can be 350, 400 Euros or even more. Just amazing! Something very curious that I found at the beginning of this street was a traffic light whose light was continuously red.

After walking through this area we headed for an Australian bar to celebrate St Patrick’s Day. The bar played some Latin music and pop. We stayed until 2:30 AM because next day we had to wake up early to discover more about this different place we were now.

Sunday, March 16th 2008. Lina, Adina and Karina spent almost their salaries in souvenirs. I wasn’t going to leave the things like that, so I bought an Amsterdam bag as well. (I show it in the picture) After shopping we decided to go to Van Gogh Museum which is just astonishing. Lots of well known and important paintings from this Dutch painter as the painting that I like the most: His room when he was in France. Photos inside the museum were not allowed and this is the reason I don’t have in this blog.

We finished seeing the whole museum around 15:30 and we continued walking around the city taking pictures of the

channels with the motorboats. Sadly we could not have a trip on the motorboat because our bus to come back to Amsterdam was at 18:30 then there was no so much time.
