Welcome to the first of many travel blogs from our big adventure around South America, Central America…..etc. We will enjoy sharing our journey with all of you, our friends and family, along the way and hopefully share a bit of the holiday glow from afar.

Well, we have finally made it to Rio de Janeiro! After weeks of packing up our lives in Melbourne it seems really strange now to be sitting on the beach in Ipanema with nothing to do but enjoy the scenery! No lists, no commitments, no time frames - we’re almost at a loss of what to do with ourselves. Not that it will take us too long to settle into our travelling groove…

As this is only day two, we haven’t done too much adventuring yet. Trying to push through the timezone changes and move into relax mode before we head south and begin our hardcore hiking. We did stumble across a great local fruit & veg market on our way to the beach this morning though. Such cheap and fresh food! One stall holder was so intent on having us try all of the produce in his stall we couldn’t eat the tasters fast enough. His ploy worked though - we felt compelled to buy some strawberries (very tasty!) after all of that.

The people we have met and chatted with have all been really friendly so far. Despite all the travel warnings about thieves etc, we feel quite comfortable walking around here. We haven’t been out late yet, so I guess time will tell. Tomorrow night we are going to go out for dinner with one of the locals, Adriana, who works in the hostel we are staying at - so hopefully we’ll find out where the good local spots are.

Ciao Amigos! Nick is cooking me dinner so I’d better go and help!

welcome to Rio - enjoy
Hi Rinski and Nick, good to hear that you are in Brazil and enjoying it - I wouldn't worry about the feeling of having nothing to do, that is what a holiday is all about, besides it gives you time to absorb the atmosphere of the place - and where better to do this than in Rio? We look forward to more blogs, regards Ross and Bev
