Today is Monday 4th Feb and the outside temperature is around 12c and improving. The clocks have been put back by another hour so am typing this blog at 1100hrs ship time which is 1400hrs back home, unless you are in Australia in which case you will have to work it out for yourselves.

I did say that I would not report again until after we hit land again on Wednesday but have had a couple of days where although we did not land we saw a couple of fantastic sites from the ship. As already said, we are at present sailing along the west cost of Chile through the Chile Fjords and were treated to a couple of glaciers. First was on Saturday 2nd Feb, this being called Amalia Glacier. It was a half mile in length and seemed out of the world. There was very little sound apart from the occasional splashing of the ship. Having said that we were lucky enough to see some of the glacier break away and fall into the ocean and what a loud bang that made. Difficult to appreciate the size of the glacier so have added a picture which shows one of the ships tenders in front of it. This tender was sent out to take photographs not only of the glacier but also of our fellow passengers waving from the ship. And I must add that we have got a very considerate captain as he insisted that he would first of all show the Glacier from the port side and that passengers on the starboard side should not tire themselves by walking across the ship as he would turn it around for them, which he did, very considerate I thought. Just to add that the tender somehow managed to get on board a lump of floating ice. From a distance it did not seem very big but once on board the ship was some four foot in diameter.

On Sunday we arrived in the morning to the second glacier which was called Pio X Glacier. Now if you thought the first was large, well this one was some three miles in length and some seventy meters in height. The vessel could only go within one and a half miles to the edge of this as the waters any nearer, according to our captain, had not been chartered so we had to play safe. Even so it seemed as if you could put out your arm and touch it. A spectacular site indeed.

Today we are cruising again in and out of the islands or should it be fjords, the sun is shining and temperature slowly rising, being around 12c at 0800hrs this morning. May try and get a few winks on deck.

Glaciers
Now that to me looks like one of the highlights of the cruise, those glaciers look mighty impressive, did you put any in your Bacardi and Coke Fred
